The Warrior Queen Returns
I smiled and waved back, crossing the sandy fighting pit, avoiding the sparring men.
“I could really use a partner,” April said, “Would you spar with me?”
I glanced around. A few of the older men watched me suspiciously.
April’s eyes were pleading, and I guessed that she hardly ever got any sparring practice around here.
“Of course, let’s go.” I said, kicking off my shoes and pulling off my overshirt. I cuffed my jeans, to keep from tripping, and grabbed a handful of chalk from a dustbag nearby.
