Brooke spat, his words laced with venom. I tried to reason with him, desperate to avoid another physical confrontation. "Brooke, please. I have no intention of causing any trouble. I just want to be a part of this family." But Brooke was beyond reason. He raised his fist to strike me, and I knew that there was no way out of this but to defend myself.
