MOON BOUND: BROKEN BY THE PACK
"Not now. Please, baby... just hold on a little longer."
I forced my legs forward, but the strength had vanished. My muscles were useless, liquid lead. My body was completely broken, drained by eighteen years of beatings, weeks of starvation, and the terrifying, heavy pull of the new life feeding on what little stamina I had left.
Blood pounded in my ears like a war drum. The streetlights smeared into long, sickening streaks of yellow haze. The ground tilted violently beneath my boots.
My knees buckled. I crashed hard onto the frozen asphalt. The paper sack Nora had given me tore open upon impact, spilling fresh bread and dried fruit into the dirty slush.
