I walk back into the room and make sure to bolt the door. I sigh as I throw myself onto the bed and grab the book I took from the library. I don't leave my room for the rest of the day. By the time hunger finally wins, the sky outside is dark. I force myself to get up, tossing my book aside. My head aches from reading for hours, and my stomach feels painfully empty. Maybe I should have eaten the meal, but what if it was poisoned? I had kept it out anyway so no need for regrets.
