4 I don't know how I stayed strong in there but I did. Getting to see my parents and my sister for the last time really made me realize how much I didn't hate them but rather made peace with how my life was meant to be. I went back into my room to find it empty because I gave Sean to Nina to take care. I settled down in my room and looked at the clock next to my bedside. It was already six in the evening. That was how fast time flies. I don’t know if I should stay awake the whole night until I die or sleep. Maybe I should stay awake tonight, so I did. I stayed awake the whole night.1

Just like he always did. I sank onto the bed with a sigh, pulling one of the books from the shelf. It was an old favorite of mine, a story of adventure and lost love. I started reading, losing myself in the pages as the hours ticked by. Eventually, the words blurred together. The exhaustion from the fight was catching up to me. I forced myself to stay awake, to keep reading but sleep claimed me before I even realized it. * When I woke up, I noticed the room was a bit darker. I blinked a few times, trying to shake off the sleep from my eyes. As I shifted, I noticed something—or rather, someone—beside me.

*Astra's Pov* She was awake when they came down.She had been awake since two seventeen when Reeves sent the signal and had stayed awake through the specific discipline of someone who had learned that sleep during uncertain hours was a luxury that cost more than it gave.The twins were asleep beside Maren who was not asleep but had been lying with her eyes closed in the specific stillness of an elder who had decided that rest was a form of discipline even when sleep wasn't possible.

Elma. She read two chapters of her book. Fiction. About a woman who left her city and found herself. She underlined one sentence: _Rest is not quitting. Rest is remembering who you are._ She napped for thirty minutes. No guilt. Fan on low. The room warm and safe. When she woke, the light had changed. Softer. Golden. The kind of light that made everything look kinder. Nathan came by at 6:00 PM with suya wrapped in paper and two bottles of cold malt. He didn’t knock loud. He knew she’d hear.

She made it look like she was reading a book but she knew she was waiting for him to come. She laid the book beside her. The tea in her mug had turned cold and she didn't bother drinking from it or replacing it. She would reach the end of a paragraph. Realize she hadn’t absorbed a single word. So she had given up. She wasn’t going to tell Alex that she had been awake since before he left because he would be so worried about her. She wasn’t going to tell him how many times she had looked at the clock or how many different scenarios her imagination had produced over the course of the night.

I remained still, taking in deep breaths to calm my nerves. I immediately woke, panting from fear and afraid that I was running mad, so I tried to stay awake. Hours passed and I was still sitting on the bare floor, thinking about nothing and feeling sleepy, but I forbade myself to sleep, not when I could go back to sleep and meet that creepy whispering voice that always found its way into my head - there was no way I was going to let that happen, I decided to continue to stay awake as I fought and hard enough, even slapping myself whenever the tendency to sleep came.

I managed to throw my legs over the edge of the bed and I peeked at the clock with one eye. 9 o'clock. My eyes went to the two plates again. Lunch and dinner. It was already dawn when Adrian and I went back after our interaction with Samael. I had slept the entire day. Well. Minus the pauses where Adrian demanded full attention from my body and mind. A book on the other nightstand made me crawl to the other side of the bed. Pride and prejudice. "Oh my god." I whispered softly to myself. My fingers touched the worn book. This was the book I read on top of Asta with Adrian behind me. He kept it. A small note peeked from the page. I opened the book on that page and read the neatly written words

EVA'S POV I was lying on my bed but sleep stayed miles away from me. After tossing and turning for a while, I decided to get up. I picked up a book and sat down on the chair to read. I kept staring at the pages but I couldn’t understand a single word I was reading. I let out a deep sigh and slammed the book shut. I wondered why I felt so restless. I had this nagging feeling that something bad was about to happen. Though, I didn’t know if there was something worse left to happen in my life. No matter how hard I tried to shake off the feeling, it remained in the recess of my mind.

“Now all we have to do is to figure out why you were naked and what happened to your clothes.” Feeling a bit foolish, Eliza admitted, “I never checked my room for the clothes.” “Seriously?” Reba said with angst. “When I was younger, I used to sleepwalk,” Eliza continued. “Maybe I went home and then sleepwalked. I woke up in the same place that I used to wake up when I was younger, except that I was naked.” “Well, when you were younger, you didn’t have asshole bartenders drugging you,” Reba growled.

We sat in the empty seat and as usual, i took the thick encyclopedia. “I'm Tyler.” I introduced myself to her, but she just raised an eyebrow at me and ignored me. I only heard her voice once, and then she was silent the whole time while still reading the book. What is so special about that book besides me? In a few moments, my eyelids became heavier. Gradually i closed my eyes, but i immediately slapped myself just to wake up. I can't sleep! Wake up Baron! I got up again and left my seat. I did push-ups one hundred times just to stay awake. Then i dat down next to her again. In less than ten seconds, i closed my eyes again.
