My stomach growled loudly, a cruel reminder of the emptiness that gnawed at me, of the hunger that I could no longer ignore. “Can we eat first?” I muttered, voice low and hoarse, still too shaken to even be sassy about it. My throat burned from the strain of holding back my emotions. Marcello’s smirk was infuriating. He leaned in closer, his breath hot on my skin, sending a shiver down my spine that I couldn’t shake off. His free hand reached up to tuck a stray lock of hair behind my ear in a disturbingly gentle gesture. I knew better than to fall for the illusion of tenderness.

Rowan snorted and uncovered the plate in front of me. The smell of steak and baked potato hitting me in the face, causing my stomach to growl once more.

The sound repeated itself. Valerie's face turned as red as a tomato because her stomach had been the cause. Kieran put his book down and looked toward the couch. Valerie's stomach continued to growl. She pressed on her belly firmly. The little voice inside her head scolded her stomach, "Why haven't you rumbled when I starved you before? We've only skipped one meal, and you're making it sound like you've been starved for ages. Are you looking for trouble?"

My stomach immediately started to growl as I was so hungry. "Do you want this princess? I'm sure you are starving," the bastard said. "I'm not hungry," I said given I didn't like his attitude and my stomach betrayed me by growling even more loudly. This made him laugh and drop the plate in front of me. Keisha’s eyes dropped to my midsection, then back up with a slow grin. “Sounds like someone’s hungry.”she poked my side. “Should I be scared?” I swatted her hand away, but she caught my wrist instead, tugging me closer. “Hungry?” I groaned. “I’m starving, had better feed me before I turn feral.”

She smacked me hard in the chest, then shivered, clutching her hand. “Damn! Why is your skin so tough? I’m not going to relieve myself, I’m just hungry!” The noise returned, this time more insistent. “So humans can growl,” I thought. “My stomach is growling.” “Is there an animal in your stomach?” "No, there isn't! Doesn't your stomach make noise when you're hungry? Put me down! “I have three stomachs and none of them made that noise unless I ate something bad.” “Well, I’m not you,” she huffed.

I muttered under my breath, tossing the bag carelessly onto the floor. A second later, my stomach let out a loud, betraying growl, shattering every ounce of pride I had left. I stared down at myself in disbelief. "Seriously?" My stomach answered with another shameless growl. "Traitor," I muttered, crossing my arms and glaring at the bag on the floor. For nearly a full minute, neither of us moved. Then my stomach growled again, even louder, and I let out a defeated groan. "Fine."
