Was he questioning me? “How could you spout such nonsense? I said start the car this minute!” I yelled, clutching my head in pain. The throbbing in my head grew more intense, and my stomach made a series of noises from hunger. The worms in my gut were beginning to toy with my intestines.

The thought alone made my skin crawl with discomfort. Sinking onto my side of the bed, I placed a hand on my growling belly, trying in vain to quiet its insistent demands. My stare drifted blankly to the ceiling, lost in thought yet unable to shake the persistent rumbling within me. The hunger gnawed at me so intensely, it felt as if I were hollowed out, my entire being consumed by an empty ache. The sensation was overwhelming, almost unbearable. I rolled from one side of the bed to the other, each movement seeming to amplify the noise of my empty stomach. It was as if my body were rebelling against the neglect, demanding to be nourished.

I closed my eyes and lay still for a few minutes when something strange happened. My stomach growled, causing me to open my eyes. I frowned. I had eaten dinner only a few hours ago. I ignored it and closed my eyes again. Then it happened again. It was louder this time. I sat up and glared at my stomach. "What is wrong with you?" My stomach answered with another growl. I sighed and looked at the clock. It was almost midnight. I didn't have anything in the room except a bottle of water and some crackers.

I squeezed my eyes tight, trying not to cry but feeling my eyes sting and burn still, even though I didn't want them to. I tried to fight it back even more, but I still felt the tears run down my face. My body betrayed me again as it made a loud noise. I trembled after hearing how loud my stomach growled. I waited for it, I waited to be hit for allowing my stomach to growl. It's not aloud, I'm not allowed to feel hungry! I trembled, feeling the tears run down my face as I waited to be hit. But it never came... Instead, I felt someone else taking me, collect me in their arms and pulling me against them.

I was in a pit that had no possible way of escape for me. At the same time, the pit of my stomach grumbled noisily. The worms in them were fully awake and were demanding to be filled up.

I’d settle for a hot tea even. Something other than water and crackers. My stomach let out another loud growl. This time it was like I could feel my intestines moving around, and I was sure it was heard. “Can I get you something?” This man’s voice is hoarse, like he’s lived on harsh alcohol his entire life. I glanced over at him, giving a soft smile.

Kenneth started his story. I hugged my knees and scooted closer to the fire. It was a bit chilly out and I was thankful for my hoodie. In the middle of Kenneth's story I heard a low growling sound. I flinched and stopped to listen well. It came again, this time louder. "Guys," I started panicking, my heart racing. "Are you hearing that?" Everybody stopped and listened. "I don't hear anything." Kenneth's brows creased with concern. It sounded again.

Luna woke up feeling incredibly weak. Her lips were dry. Her throat was parched. Her stomach hurt and growled at the same time. She laid crumpled on her side near a big tree.
