The sea heaved like a restless animal, moonlight fractured across black waves.
Out of the storm’s edge, lights appeared — not from a fishing boat, not a freighter. A sleek cruiser, matte-gray hull with no flag, engines humming like a predator’s purr.
Ellie clutched the rail of their dinghy as they approached. “Are we sure about this?” she asked, voice raised over the wind.
“They’re mine,” Voss said firmly. “Old friends. Off the record, off the grid. If anyone can move us unseen, it’s them.”
