“He came here many years ago. Quiet, kept to himself. He worked at the school for a while, helping the children learn. But he left a long time ago.”
“Do you know where he went?” Neha asked urgently.
The man shook his head. “He didn’t tell anyone, but there’s an old woman who might know. She was close to him. She lives by the river.”
Following the old man’s directions, they found a small hut by the riverbank. Smoke curled from the chimney, and the sound of water lapping against the shore filled the air.
An elderly woman sat on the porch, her hands busy weaving a basket. She looked up as they approached, her sharp eyes studying them.
