Mated To Valentine
Annabelle Writeshe stares into my eyes deeplythat's his eager facebut does he know you call me when he sleepshis eyes dilate when he looks at me
I sit up, coughing, tasting blood.
The stranger speaks again, this time directly to me. His voice is smooth, but there’s an edge of amusement beneath it.
I can’t make out what he’s saying.
I shake my head. “I don’t understand.”
His eyes narrow slightly. Then, after a pause, he asks, in perfect English, “Can you speak this language?”
I nod.
“Good,” he says. “That simplifies things.”
I don’t respond.
The crowd has thinned, but the hunters are still there, watching from the shadows. The vampire must sense it too because his eyes flicker toward them before returning to me.
