I sucked in a sharp breath as his hand came down again, a little harder this time. “This is for calling yourself a disgrace.” Oh. She wrinkled her nose in disgust, then took a document out of her bag and threw it in front of me. I looked down. Even though the cell was dark, I could see two distinct signatures on the document.

"Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained! If she manages to cheat her way to the top of the scoreboard, wouldn't that be a hell of a payoff?" At that moment, Mr. Smith, who was patrolling the halls, rushed over to the classroom after hearing about it. Bitter disappointment tinged his voice as he said, "This is the SAT exam, Isabelle! And you still dared to cheat!" He clutched his chest, too furious to say anything else.

The problem wasn’t over yet, but at least he’s gone for now. I turned slowly to face him again. His gray eyes, sharp and cold, were fixed on me. For a split second, I felt exposed, like he could see straight through me and through my thoughts. “I… thank you,” I said quickly, bowing and forcing a smile. “And… I’m sorry for the trouble.” “That’s the third time,” he murmured, almost under his breath, before turning and walking away.
