She reached into her bag and pulled out a beautifully illustrated book, its cover adorned with a picture of a firefly. Theo's eyes widened with delight.

Sunshine took Jacob's hand, tilting her little face and sweetly coaxing, "Let's play with him together! Okay? Okay?" Jacob hesitated at Sunshine's charming request, but before he could respond, his phone rang. "Speak."

He was pressing the buttons on the side, making the book read out loud in a cheerful voice. “Sun!” the book announced. “The sun is bright in the sky!” Apollo clapped his little hands. “Sun!” he repeated, although his pronunciation was off. I forced a small smile. “That’s right, Apollo. Sun.”
