When the Program told me I could return, I felt no joy. Only emptiness. The next time I opened my eyes, I was staring at a white hospital ceiling. Machines beeped beside me, and my throat burned as if I had been asleep for years. A nurse saw me wake and rushed over. “You’re safe,” she said. “You were caught in a dockside explosion. Sophia Lane didn’t survive.” My fingers tightened against the sheet. Sophia was dead. Before I could speak, the nurse added, “There was another survivor. A young man named Luca. He woke up this morning.”

That moment where she realizes she might die and her last thought is "I failed my son." I cried writing that ending. Not even joking. Sat at my laptop at 3 AM with tears running down my face because I'd just done that to a character I love. To THREE characters I love, actually, because Ares and Lucas are in that wreck too and none of them deserved this. But you know what? Stories aren't about what characters deserve. They're about what characters SURVIVE. And trust me when I say—Book 2 is going to be about survival in ways that will make Book 1 look like a warm-up.

It's about testimony. Instead, I'm reading at the foundation. Thirty women. That's who's here. Thirty women who have survived something. Who have made it to the other side of something that tried to break them. Who understand that a book like this isn't entertainment. It's witness. It's proof that the thing that happened to you doesn't have to be the final word on who you are.

Vivian conceded, her tone a blend of relenting and caution. "Thank you so much, young lady. You are such a lifesaver," he expressed his gratitude, and a grateful smile adorned Vivian's face. "So, what's the name of the book you are looking for?" Vivian inquired, curiosity coloring her voice. "The White Death," he revealed, and Vivian's eyebrows shot up in surprise at the title. "What kind of book is that?" she asked, her curiosity piqued. "Supernatural," he replied, his gaze intensifying as he locked eyes with her.

Hearing him call me that made Zariah stir and made me melt inside a little. I had done it. I had escaped my ass hole rejected mate and found my second chance mate. I still had a lot to do but I had Amelia, Kyle, Dominic and Emron to help me. I didn't know what would happen but I wasn't completely worried about it and neither was Zariah. “So what are we going to do?” Lennon asked himself, trying to think of a way to survive this messed up world, the difficulty of their mission went from 0 to 100 real fast with no warning. “We will learn how to survive.” Maya said, moving Noah away from her, after she noticed that he was uncomfortable sleeping in her lap. She already made a plan in her head on what to do and that consisted of hiding and learning how to defend themselves, with Noah being the top priority.

Soon after Tsao's group reunited, the wolves retreated ending the battle as quickly as it started. Among the survivors there were few standing, making Tsao realize how close they were to end up among the casualties. When he met bob he was about to fight a wolf barehanded and Anne would have been a sacrifice just to earn a couple seconds more to a lowly scum who wouldn't even fight for himself. Some people were mourning the dead while others walked around trying to help any survivors. Tsao noticed that there were those who would die after a single bite and those who survived even the most gruesome wounds, but still perished due to blood loss or lack of treatment.

Caitlin dove into the book, scanning through, turning the pages as fast as she could, looking for any mention of vampires, of how to heal or cure one, how to bring one back to normal life. As she began to read, she suddenly slowed down. She went back and read it again. Then again. Her heart started beating with hope. She could tell right away that this book was very different than the others. This, of all the books, felt the most real to her, the most scholarly, the most impartial. It wasn’t filled with hyperbole and myth and wild stories told by grandmothers. This one was written, paradoxically, by a bishop, in the 16th century. "Since the day I landed, I've told you repeatedly that we're done and I'm not marrying you. So, which one of us is playing games?" Damian tried to justify himself, his voice wavering. "I knew you were abroad, but there's no way you actually went to the front lines. You're just a girl—" "What about it?" Sebastian cut him off, his gaze darkening. Alex screamed from a stretcher, his face covered in dust and blood. Then he spotted Maddie and me standing there, both safe and on our feet. He went still. A second later, he broke down. "Kayla... I'm sorry. I should've listened to you. That corner wasn't safe. The ceiling came down on us. Rainee lied. She got us all hurt!" I looked at him coldly. They'd made their choice.
