That tether could not break, no matter the strength opposing us. Time slowed. Every movement, every heartbeat, every breath became a knife-edge. Can I help you?” He does not recognize the female voice on the other end of the line but he has to admit, it is a beautiful voice. He would know how to spot a lovely voice, considering her heard random voices all day long.

Snow twisted violently, driving his elbow into my father’s ribs at the exact second three concealed rogues surged from underground trenches we hadn’t detected. Trenches. Pre-dug. Planned. Chaos erupted but it wasn’t blind chaos. It was surgical. Eric shoved me behind him as an arrow sliced through the air where I’d been standing. Cain intercepted Snow as he broke free, their bodies colliding hard enough to crack frozen earth. They fought brutally, efficiently no wasted strikes. Snow wasn’t trying to win. He was trying to reach the ridge. Smoke thickened. Another blast ...... this time at the northern descent.

My chest burned, and I couldn’t say anything, couldn’t make a sound. “Aww, little lovebirds, aren’t you?” Lyun hissed, her voice dripping with mockery and disdain. Rayan shot her a look of pure contempt, then gave me one last glance, one last breath, before stepping away, joining Hertor, who watched me as if he wanted to run to me and stop me from moving forward. But he didn’t. No one did. Only Lyun and I remained there, at the center of the field. It wasn’t supposed to snow at that time of year, but I think the Goddess has a refined sense of aesthetics and knows how beautiful blood looks against white frost. So, slowly, flakes of snow began to fall over us.

“Playing games with me now?” Snow didn’t respond. She picked up a second glass and poured it slowly down his neck, letting the wine trail across his chest, stomach, and lower—stopping just at the edge of his waistline. Then came the ice. Ray jolted violently. The sudden blast of cold hit there, the sting so sharp he gasped. Snow tilted her head in mock sympathy. “What you really need right now is a woman, right?” She smiled. “But I wouldn’t do that with a dog.”

The atmosphere felt awkward after Poppy heard Evander's last words about his friends' betrayal. The snowstorm outside was still raging, showing no signs of stopping. “Why won't this storm end?” Poppy began to mutter softly, impatient to wait for the snowstorm to stop raging. Evander's body was shivering more and more. Poppy thought that Evander would be fine after receiving the warmth from her body, but she was completely wrong. “I-it's possible t-t-t-that this sn-snowstorm w-won't stop...” Evander's voice was hoarse and trembling.

But I couldn’t do it. Instead, I opted for a happy ending. Maybe some of you will feel like their story is still incomplete to you. But to me, it is. They went from hating each other to loving each other and even dying for each other. It doesn’t go much deeper than that. As for the fact that the Snow brothers still have an unfinished business to take care of…. Well, this is where my good news comes in handy. My next book will be about Lucas Snow. The crazy, impulsive, thinks-he’s so-funny, younger brother.

I gently closed the newspaper and threw it into the blazing fireplace in front of me. The tongues of fire instantly swallowed the paper, swallowing that name and that past soaked in blood and betrayal. "Nothing." I took a sip of coffee, warmth spreading through my body. "I just think the fire is warm tonight." Outside the window, snow was falling heavily, covering the world in white. And my story was just beginning. (The End)

As rain started to fall, I belatedly remembered how the weather forecast said it would get colder later in the night, and maybe even start to snow. Once it starts snowing in Atlanta, it never seems to stop. I used to dread winter, but Lucas would always wrap me in his coat several sizes larger than I was, keeping a warm blanket available in his car just for me. Looking back now, those moments of so-called happiness were never meant to last. As the rain poured harder, strands of hair stuck damply to my forehead, and my steps wavered almost to the point of collapse. I shook my head and let out a bitter laugh. How did my life end up like this?
