ARIA I sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the empty IV bag still hanging like a ghost from my wall. My throat was a jagged mess of fire, and every time I tried to swallow, my vision blurred. The phone buzzed. Tasha. "Hey," I croaked. It sounded like I’d been gargling broken glass. "Aria? What the hell happened to your voice?" Tasha’s tone was instant alarm. "You sound like you’ve been screaming into a pillow for three days straight."

His eyes travel down then back up my body. I swallow, pinching my side to make sure I'm not dreaming. I'm not. "Am... I?" I stutter. "Yeah." He tucks my damp hair behind my ear, making me shiver. "So why couldn't you?" I whisper, staring at his masculine pretty face. He looks at the television again, I almost think that he's not gonna respond but he proves me wrong when he clears his throat and starts talking. "I don't know, sometimes my heart and my brain don't agree on the same stuff, it's like having a demon and an Angel on both your shoulders." He says, his eyes still glued to the TV.

Cathy gulped her saliva. "Is it right?" Crag's voice is coarse, Cathy adjusts herself and tries to sound okay.

His voice revebarrated all over my body. “Why call me if you were going to stay silent?” My hands trembled. “I’m hanging up.” “Wait!” I jumped from the pool bed. Taking silent quick breaths. Fucking get your shit together, Chiara. I blew out and then opened my mouth. “How are you doing?” What the fuck? I had so much to say to him but now that he responded I got tongue tied. “Well, I’m still breathing.” His voice was cold, almost unrecognizable. My heart hurt. “If you have nothing to say then I’m hanging up. I’m a busy person.” The one and only. I almost said that as I usually did.

Just as she was about to hang up, a voice rasped through the speaker. “Hello?” Tiffany’s eyes widened. The hoarse, gravelly sound was so unlike Jacob’s usual smooth tone that she thought she’d dialed the wrong number for a moment. “Jacob?” she asked hesitantly. “Is that you?” A weak cough came through the line. “Yeah, it’s me. Sorry, I sound like I swallowed sandpaper.” Tiffany’s brow furrowed with concern. “You sound awful. Are you okay?” “Just a nasty bug,” Jacob replied, his voice cracking. “Nothing to worry about.”

“We didn’t.” “... give me back my life….” A voice echoed in the space above us like a passing breeze. “C-Christy? I-Is that you?” Tessa was suddenly back in her tiny voice. “N-No—of course, not!” I snapped. “... you ruined me… you ruined me…..” The eerie voice continued. “W-Where are you, Christy?” Tessa squealed. “W-Whoever it is, it’s not funny! Stop it!” I growled, gripping my hands tightly.

If what I did worked, I’ll have to untangle over 1500 voices in my head before I’ll be able to get out of this mess. The first couple of times I try, it’s too overwhelming and I shut it down again. Then, one day, I see one strand light up. I can see the thread of the voice as it weaves in and around others. I pull on it and untangle it from all the others. Eli. It’s his voice that is now separated. I keep it close so I can listen when he talks to me. Cara, Angel, Sirona and Benny are next. I’m not sure if I have a stronger connection to them, or if they are actually somewhere close to me talking so I can hear them, or in this case, see their voices more clearly.

my attention snapped back to my surroundings as the voice echoed. “Why did you do it my love? I didn’t think or believe that you were that stupid…” the voice chuckled like a demon, and i realized it was Rian’s voice again, but it was mixed with multiple voices. They were talking all at once, and the hair on my body felt raised in nervousness and fear.

Why don't they just work when they are useful in the world and not just a burden on society? "Isn't that dangerous?" Cayden asked again. I was surprised by Cayden's straight Tagalog. Even if it's forced! "That's not it. But wait, why does your voice sound different?" The man asked Cayden. I'm panicking because we might get sick. "I have.......... Sore throat." Cayden answered! Amp! What kind of excuse is that? Only a fool would believe that! Oh, the depth of the voice. Baritone baritone! Then there is a sore throat?! Hahahaha! My god!

I wanted to stand up and dash away but my body was too heavy to move. “You’re awake?” a deep masculine voice spoke suddenly beside me, and I saw an angel…. No demigod looked up from the book in his hand. I tried to speak, but for some reason, I couldn’t, as if my vocal cords refused to work. “Don’t strain yourself” “You…” I wanted to say, again, but I don’t think I could form any words as my throat was heavy as if a lump of morsel was closing it. “Shhh…” He placed a finger on his lips signifying that I should not talk, “You can’t regain your voice just yet. The doctor said your vocal cords have been impaired because of the wounds” he explained with a troubled expression.
