“Who are these Alphas?” Eamon smirked, his glowing eyes narrowing in amusement. “That is for you to discover. You will know when the time comes. My hands clenched into fists. "And if I fail?" "Pain." His voice was a low growl. "Unimaginable, unending pain, until your very soul is devoured by the abyss."

"That's why she demanded to see my mark that night. She knew I didn't have one." Reed was silent for a long moment. His hand found mine, his fingers intertwining with my own. "The mark isn't just a symbol," he said quietly. "It's not like a wedding ring that you can put on and take off. When an Alpha marks his mate, it creates a bond that can never be broken. It means you belong to each other completely." My heart stuttered in my chest. "I know."

Already angling. “Alpha Agora ,” she purred, bowing, trying to look graceful still. “It’s an honor.” He gave her one of those tiny, dangerous smiles. “You are welcome here, Abigail . Bloodfang values family.” Family. “You’re welcome to stay as long as you want,” he said, and Abigail giggled like a schoolgirl. That made me squint my eyes.

Did he bother you?” “Not at all, he was extremely fun throughout the tour.” “Good.” “Father?” She called. “Yes?” “What’s a pack?” Brynn paused in surprise, but his face was unhinged. “Because Phil said something about a pack, an alpha, and being unmarked,” She said, “At first it made me think of him as a freak, but after that, he was entirely fun. So Dad, what’s a pack?” Brynn looked at her, “It’s nothing important, it’s a term we use in my world, same meaning as elites.” He said.

Even the building looked different, like I was seeing it through slightly distorted eyes. Halfway down the corridor, I remembered what Martha had told me on one of the days she had tended to me, and the thought made my steps slow down. She had looked at me carefully, like she was deciding how much to say and how much to keep back. “You should be careful around the Alpha,” she had said quietly, glancing toward the hallway like she didn’t want anyone to hear her. “People don’t really talk about him, but there are things… Strange things.
