Yoel took the cue and left too. That left Luke by himself, alone. His eyes welled up as his grip on the silverware caused it to shake. He looked like a little critter left behind. Holly did not even glance back at him. Luke could not fathom how he got through that meal. All he knew was that each mouthful was laced with tears and was downright bitter. Holly could feel Luke's intense glare on her. It was to no avail no matter what she did. She was crystal clear that this had to be sorted out, pronto.

Blade forgot the deer. He turned and stalked toward the new thing. The weak, wounded thing that smelled of enemy. The rage had a new target. He loomed over her, a giant of shadow and fangs. The girl looked up, her face pale with pain and terror. She didn’t scream. She just whimpered again, her voice a broken thread. “P-please… don’t… help me…” *Kill her, * Blade’s thought was a dark pulse. *She smells of them. Kill her and howl our pain to the moon.*

Before I could ask, she explained softly, "Mr. Lutz left ten minutes ago for a meeting. Give me a minute. I'll call his assistant." I wanted to say it was fine, but she bolted, leaving me alone in the room. As I struggled to sit up, I noticed my arms and right calf were bandaged. Lying still, I hadn't felt much, but moving around brought a searing, bone-deep ache. "Ow!" I grunted. The door opened behind me, and I thought it was the nurse. "You don't need to call them." I turned and saw Colin, his face marked with handprints.

Slowly, he pulled the blade from its sheath and brought it toward my face. I closed my eyes and held my breath. Relax, Lila. He's not going to kill you with it... I repeated to myself before cautiously opening my eyes again to stare at the most intimidating blade I had ever seen. It looked incredibly heavy, as though it carried the weight of an anchor. He felt his blood running fast, but it felt foreign too heavy, too hot, too alive. In the sand before him, the Black Sun Blade stood buried, its edge pulsing slowly as if breathing. Rayden walked toward it, each step leaving a glowing trail in the sand. His hand reached out hesitantly, and when his fingers touched the hilt— Light burst from the blade, spiraling around Rayden’s body. Wind exploded in every direction, sweeping dust and sand aside, creating a massive vortex that consumed all silence in the desert. Yet Rayden did not release his grip. Instead, he drew a deep breath and stared into the sword.

The creature let out an ear-splitting shriek, its massive body convulsing as black ichor spilled from the wound. But the moment of triumph was short-lived.

His weak hands found mine as he tried to pry my fingers off the blade but my girl remained firm as I pressed the blade deeper into his chest. His grip loosened, his hands falling to his side. I released the blade, standing to my feet. “ In this life and in the next, you'd never make the mistake of taking what belongs to me.” I marched the blade down, his body jolted, blood rolling down his mouth. I closed his eyes, tossing his body into the flames as I crept to the window.

Chapter 25 Andre's P. O. V. I have no idea how he got his hands on those absurd-looking blades, but one thing was certain: they would soon be mine. He rushed at me without hesitation, but this time aiming low for my legs. I leapt just in time, but midair, I glanced down and saw that he had thrown the blade. Before I could react, it sank into the underside of my leg, and something seeped into my bloodstream through the wound.
