We're serving the Lycans instead. I placed the book back as it wasn't what I was looking for. The next book I picked out was just about the monarchy and how the first king came to be, quite interesting but wasn't what I was looking for at the moment. After a few more picks of boring history books, I finally found one that caught my eyes, “A CHOSEN TALE,” it resembled your old regular books but something about it was different, i couldn't tell what it was. I sat on the ground with my back pressed against the shelf and turned the first page open, “The history of the chosen one,” I whispered. Quite cryptic if you asked me.

“You’re right. I don’t know as well as I should, but can you understand that in my world, once you’ve found the one, you don’t let go?” “You said you don’t have mates, so how do you know this?” “I know, I said that, but I believe sometimes it’s just ordained, written in the stars. I never said it didn’t exist but that we can choose who we want; but I’ve also heard of people finding their mate, their soulmate.”

Silence spread like mist. Then she finished, her tone almost reverent: "And so, I judged. One by one. All who bore his legacy. I saw their choices. Their sins. Their dreams. And now… I stand before the last." Her eyes locked on me. "You are my chosen."

He shook his head, as if he no longer wanted the image in his head “Please! You’re the Chosen One!” I stared at him, once again stunned. Had I walked out of the gym and into some kind of modern-day Narnia?! “Nope.” I smiled at him, hoping to convey my sarcasm. He gritted his teeth in frustration. “You’re about twenty years too late! Chosen ones are always teenagers. Probably because they can afford to just skip a few days of school; they still live with their parents, don’t have bills to pay” I waved my hand in the air in a swirling motion, indicating there were several other reasons.

My breath caught in my throat as a low, ethereal whisper echoed with the wind: “The Chosen One.”

Controlled. Ryker glanced at me. “It’s been fighting you.” I nodded slowly. “And I’ve been fighting back.” Even if I didn’t realize that’s what it was. He turned the page again. “Dark Magic wages war on the Chosen. It seeks to snuff out the light before it burns bright. But in the end, it fears only one thing — the Chosen One marked by the Moon Goddess.” My fingers tightened around the edge of the book. “Only the Luna’s Marked chosen one can break the hold of Dark Magic.”

It turned out that my destined lover would automatically appear in my life. The moment the right person came along, getting married and having children was the natural next step.

I took a breath and refocused on the book I was holding. When I opened it, I was shocked. There, written clearly, were the names of my ancestors, crossed out in red ink, like blood. Page after page, I opened them, revealing the names of women from the Haugen family, their names marked and crossed out. Then I realised, the writing was clear there. The Chosen Girl. My heart was pounding, I felt scared. I opened the next page again, my eyes widened once more. There, my mother's name was clearly written, but it was only marked, not crossed out.

I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat. The first Elder’s voice carried a weight of centuries as he spoke the words: “The Chosen One has awakened. And with her, so does the Hunt.” Silence. A cold chill seeped into the room. Xavier clenched his fists. I swallowed. “The Hunt?” The woman’s voice was almost gentle. “Those who seek to sacrifice you.”

Giselle stepped forward, reaching out to help me, but I pushed her hand away. At that moment, I couldn't hold it in anymore. I shouted, "So, you guys weren't in debt at all? You probably even have millions in assets! You lied to me. You were just afraid I'd use the money and block Kevin's path, right?" Kevin grabbed Giselle's hand and sneered, "Why are you yelling? We've already done you a favor by letting you reconnect with your real family. What more do you want? Before you found us, weren't you working yourself to the bone anyway?" he continued, smirking. "What's wrong with doing that now?"
