She’s only an hour late, she reminded herself, drifting into her bedroom to pin her damp hair to the top of her head in a loose ballerina bun. Moseying into the living room again, she snapped on the radio, only half-listening to the whatever evening soap opera was on as she flopped into her chair. Selecting a book from the stack borrowed from the library, Evelyn opened Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and began to read.

That was the perfect answer to my question, right until it disappeared. “The library is closed for today. You should check back tomorrow”, the librarian said, with a small smile curved across his lips. I swallowed hard and wiped off sweats that had formed on my forehead. “I just want to check if someone returned a book. I would be done before you know it”, I said to him, making my way into the library, even before he gave me the permission. I scanned through different corners of the racks in the library, through various segments and every single book.

After saying that, he left. At this time, the head librarian appeared and said, "Hi, Chica. A new batch of books will arrive tomorrow. You can sort these books out now and make a list for tomorrow." The head librarian was a middle-aged woman. She had been working at this college for many years now. Although she looked strict, Ayla thought that she was a good person. "Yes, Ms. Xu. I'll get them once I'm done here." She smiled and put the books back to the shelf one by one. For the rest of the afternoon, she worked at the library because she didn't have any classes.

From a modern person's perspective, it was a kind of cool design. Together with Natalie, Audelia visited Library as the first destination in her tiny adventure. But then Mrs. Lewis called, saying Mom had apparently gotten beaten up again. She pressed her phone against the wall, and I could barely hear what was happening next door. Mr. Jarrell yelled, "Are you out of your mind, Shannon? I swear you've drunk yourself into a stupor. You really thought this was a good idea? Do you want me to send someone to knock some sense into you first?"
