Thinking quickly of how to further prove her fake sincerity, she turned around and snatched a random book from the shelf to show him. "This, was what caught my eye actually," she said, sounding a bit more confident. “Uh, a-are you sure you want to read that one?” He asked while clearing his throat while she scanned the backside of the book quickly. It was an introduction about the author—a philosopher from a foreign country. Maybe it wasn't so bad. She turned the book around to the front and the title had her heart dropping in complete dread.

“Rebecca’s greedy, not cautious. I believe that if the numbers are big enough, she won’t ask questions.” Liam sighs and rubs his temples. “God, Laura… what happened to us? We used to argue about dinner reservations, not life-and-death scams.” I offer a tired smile. “Life had other plans.” By dawn, the fake ledger lies open between us as we go through it for the last time. My head and hand are throbbing with a terrible headache. We successfully wrote twenty pages of beautifully forged deceit. By this time, Liam’s eyes are bloodshot. It is filled with handwritten columns of initials, massive seven-figure dollar amounts, and what appear to be routing numbers for offshore accounts.

HIS DESPERATION FOR A CAREER!"Bullet points with altered email excerpts and false financial data were placed beneath the text, all of which were intended to paint Jett as an unsuspecting celebrity and Scarlett as a desperate, cunning opportunist.
