The dozens of smaller rifts suddenly violently merged, tearing the heavens apart to form one enormous, global rift that stretched from horizon to horizon. An ocean of black void mist flooded down from the jagged tear, cascading like an apocalyptic waterfall. The suffocating darkness instantly covered the moon and blotted out the pale remnants of the sun, plunging the entire world into a permanent, suffocating gray twilight. On that day, the colossal roar of the Celestial Palace's collapse shook the three realms. The mortals on earth looked up at the sky in horror, only to see a torrential rain of crimson falling from the heavens. Someone held out a hand to catch it, brought it to their nose, and then screamed in terror, "Blood! This rain is blood!" "What in the world has happened in the Nine Heavens?!" The mortals, of course, would never know that at that moment, the lofty heavens had already become a mountain of the dead in a sea of blood.
