A dent on the concrete wall behind Nolani looked as if a giant had landed a punch into it. Eyes glowing jade, pearl white fangs protruded as though she’s ready to bite, validated the reality of my situation. Nolani is a vampire gazing at me hungrily as she struggles with Henry’s restraints. “Nolani,” growled Henry, a warning. He had his back on me. It’s safe to assume that he isn’t human to hold down an agitated predator like that. “She… she smells so good,” she grunted, fighting off something similar to the despair of resistance.

The table let out a clang, his body pressing against the hard metal as his eyes stare at the blood dripping organ clenched around the supposedly dead person's fingers. He took out his heart. Christian's heart. He wanted to scream, let out the fear and remove the stormy cloud gathering in his chest. But his oversized ego would not allow that, watching as his predator advances slowly, taking all his time like he had the world in his hand. All he had witnessed was enough to come to a conclusion. He had just voluntarily entered the other side of hell.

I scooped up a fallen branch, as it was the only weapon available, and held it high. “Shoo, go away,” I said, brandishing the large stick. Another round of growls and snarls filled the air. I was in deep shit. Spinning in a slow circle, I kept my attention on the creatures as more and more glowing eyes appeared through the fog and trees. One of them advanced, stepping into a beam of moonlight. My breath hitched. It was massive, like a wolf shifter, covered in reddish-black fur with a row of spikes along its spine. Saliva dripped from its mouth. The crimson glowing pupils flickered as if made of flame. A single word popped into my mind—Hellhounds.

On that day, everyone around him was waiting, waiting for him to retreat in order to pounce on them, the mighty king's monsters, who made a vow to themselves to turn their lives into hell from the moment they were born and did so by the most heinous means and ways. He looked around and saw their thirst for blood—beasts devoid of feelings of kindness and pity, machines made to kill without mercy.

I tugged his arm, pulling him away from Quinn in utter amazement. He made the man submit. Up until this point I'd only ever seen two people able to do it. Ryder, who was his alpha, and myself. It only meant one thing. Mordecai was bound to be like me, if not more powerful. Dusk's temper was for a reason, he was an old wolf. Hellhounds were almost always killed off before maturity, and those that survived were never allowed to procreate. That meant the souls were all jumbled up for hundreds upon thousands of years with no host to let them live their cycle since the council stepped up.

Dominic had asked and looked at me. "Hellhounds are black demon dogs cloaked in black smokey gas that takes the shape of a dog and has red eyes. They gather the souls for me when it's time to take them to the afterlife," Jippies explained. "They are perfectly harmless unless a malicious soul doesn't follow the rules; Hellhound will chase them down until they surrender." "Then do you mean a hellhound was going against you and chased this woman?" Jippies nods his head at my question. "I raised those Hellhounds since they were pups. To think a wild Hellhound left the Demon Realm to chase a human when her time isn't up yet. It's strange indeed."

When he got to where I was, he held out the tool for me to see clearly "Please." I continued struggling against the bindings desperately. When he reached out to grab my arm, I suddenly froze, closing my eyes and turning my face away. "You Thompsons have heartlessly killed so many of our kind. You killed even those who never killed a human for centuries. You've tortured us and hunted us like Prey." Venom dripped from his voice. The darkness in his eyes intensified as he trailed the knife over my skin teasingly. I couldn't stop trembling in utter terror.

The hunt was far from over. Hound, a hellhound in form and power, burned with an unearthly heat that sparked fear in all who saw him. A relentless predator, gifted with a sight that saw all, yet chained by the frailties of his human body. Without hesitation, he charged toward the Seer, his eyes devoid of any humanity, only the cold hunger of a predator. Silver smoke trailed behind his piercing gaze, his ink-black skin radiating deadly heat as he closed in on his target.

"Oh, I will. Thanks." Truth be told, she could probably wipe the floor with whoever attacked her, which left me to wonder why she had shied away from him at the clinic. "Wait." "Umm?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "Did you know Deven?" She shook her head. "Never seen him before in my life. But he's a Hellhound." My eyes nearly bugged out of my head. "A what?" "Well, actually, he's Hellhound shifter," she corrected. "Those guys are made, like vampires. Real Hellhounds aren't. But you definitely want to stay clear of them regardless."
