he whispered, and I turned to look at him with tear-filled eyes.
It was everything, all at once. I’d betrayed him, and in doing so I’d lost myself. Hunting had always meant that I’d gone home to him with innocent little lies, white lies, and I’d always managed to tell myself that they were honest, in their own way – not in truth, but in intention. But hunting was no longer what it had been to me, and I no longer felt like the same powerful huntress who could take a knife to the face and not think twice about it.
The thunder roared outside, and instantly the room was lit with a flash of forked lightening. It crackled, purple and white, blooming across the sky like blood.
