“You’re insane if you think she’ll—” “I’m not insane,” the man interrupted, cutting through the tension with precision. “I’m patient. Strategic. And I’ve waited a long time for this. A very long time.” Dorian stepped closer, his presence radiating protective heat. “You’re not taking her anywhere. She stays here, with us.” The man’s eyes glinted with amusement. “Ah, but that’s the beauty of it. She doesn’t have a choice.” Before anyone could react, he moved with lightning speed, drawing a small device from his pocket. A pulse of light shot from it, and the warehouse lights flickered violently. I shielded my eyes, the sound of electricity sizzling in the air.

I walked slowly, knowing they had found me. I walked quietly on the tips of my toes to the wall beside the door and prepared myself to hit the person behind the door. The door opened slowly, and the man stepped into my room only to get a lamp against his head. He hissed as he stepped back. I took this moment to step forward, ready to fight for my life, and I realized it was a strange man. "You're going to pay for that, bitch!" He growled something in his language, rubbing his head. He suddenly stepped forward and kicked my legs from under me, making me fall to the ground. Before I could register what was happening, he started to kick me in the stomach as I gasped for air.

Seconds passed when an idea popped up like a light bulb was turned on. “Humayo’t bumalik!” I shouted. Then my hands started to glow. The two Manananggal looked at the direction where I am hiding. I shouted as I rushed forward. The man turned sharply, surprise flashing in his eyes. Before I could reach Esmeralda, he shoved me hard in the chest. I stumbled backward, nearly losing my balance. It seemed I was wrong because he was strong as hell..I definitely judged this book by it's cover. “Stay out of this.” he snapped. My heart pounded, but I refused to back down. “Touch her again and I’ll scream so loud this entire house will wake up.” I warned, my voice shaking but loud.

I lunged, fingers brushing the spine, but the chain jerked me back hard enough to send me stumbling. The man holding the book smirked. “This little thing? Looks like trash. Doubt it’s worth anything.” I glared at him with everything I had. “Return. My. Book.” He lifted it out of reach. “Hear that? She thinks she’s in a position to demand things.” “Shut her up,” the other said. He grabbed my arm and yanked me upward. Dirt spilled down my sleeves as they dragged my body out of the ditch. My feet scraped against the edge; I kicked, twisted, but they hauled me like I weighed nothing.

Clenching my jaw and keeping my fists in a ball, I stalk over to them. I gleamed several pages of torment the sun’s bastard endured before I heard his footsteps. Of course, I put it exactly back in its place before taking my position where I originally was. But in that moment, I eyed the book as if it was the first time I had ever seen it. “Oh, I didn’t know you left that here. What is it?”

I muttered as the man grabbed hold of me , ready to lay me on the bed . The next page was the drawing of a man, he looked more real than any of her other drawings. Almost like he was staring into my eyes, a light flashed through, almost blinding me. I quickly closed the book, took a deep breath, and got out of bed. “I need some fresh air,” I said calmly, trying to find my bearings as I walked out of my room.
