The man’s boot lifted to stomp on her pelvis as he wrenched the leg to the side, the joint snapping.

My chest rising and falling as each second passed. “We’ll take whatever is left darling”, the third man said smirking, I wasted so much time, hoping that they’d have mercy on me but before I could think, the second man lunged at me and ripped the bag from me, he pushed me to the wall and held my neck, the first man collected my phone that i had been holding in my hand, I couldn’t breathe, I needed to do something to help myself, I hated that I was weak, I was suffocating but he held my neck tighter as he scanned my body, I kicked him in the groin, the man groaned in pain as he released me from his hold.

The vision vanished. The compass became solid once more. A distant roar echoed through the collapsing library. The stranger turned sharply toward the broken sky. "They're here." Dark cracks widened overhead. From them descended enormous chains forged from black iron. Each chain carried thousands of tiny locks. They wrapped themselves around the remaining shelves. One by one... The books stopped glowing. The stories fell silent. The stranger whispered a single name. "The Silence Keepers..." Adrian looked at him. "You know them?" "I created them."

I kept giving the man weird looks, feeling very very uncomfortable in the room with him. Feeling frustrated with his glances, I slammed my book shut and looked at him. "Is there something wrong?" I asked him in irritation. He shook his head and lowered his cap, continuing his work. I ran my hand through my hair and that's when I heard the maid calling me. I walked towards her and thanked her for the coffee.

But then his face twisted with rage, and I saw the slap he was about to return. "You dare to hit me? I’ll show you manners, you little—" The man’s hand flew, and she closed her eyes. I was there before the strike landed. Her eyes snapped open when the middle-aged man let out a strangled scream. I had his arm twisted at an angle no arm was meant to endure. My face remained blank, but my grip turned his bones to lead. "Let me go! I…" I ignored him. The pressure built until he buckled, and then I kicked him.
