The explosion shook the entire forest. Light flooded the battlefield. For a moment everything disappeared. Then the light faded. The Devourer was gone. The battlefield fell silent. Slowly, wolves began to stand.

His hand on the light mechanism. “This light was designed to kill vampires. Its light is stronger than the sun itself. A light blessed by purity.” Lyra hissed in pain as another wave hit us. Her skin smoked, peeling. “Dad, stop!” Julianna screamed. “You’re killing them!” “I’m saving the world,” he snapped. “One abomination at a time.” The room heated until the air shimmered. The metal groaned and warped. My vision went white at the edges. We were dying. I could feel it.

Elena replied casually. “Yeah, he only wanted his mate but… let’s not speak about it. I folded my hands across my chest and frowned at him in both confusion and annoyance. I was about to say something else too but stopped when I heard a few girls groan and my eyes snapped towards the crowd. I noticed Joey, Franklin,danny and other vampires digging their fangs into the girls neck, sucking them hungrily and I could feel my eyes widening at the sight. They were doing it in public? Why? It was already getting dark, we were supposed to go home.

It touched my skin. A scream tore from my throat, not of pain, but of pure, unadulterated violation. I felt it pulling. Not blood. Not marrow. It was pulling the light out of me. It was sucking the memories, the feelings, the love I had for him, draining it into a glass canister above my head.
