The roof above us erupted in a deafening storm of stone and sunlight. A violent shaft of golden light crashed through the ceiling—blinding, searing, divine. As it happened the vampire screamed. I froze, my eyes widening at the sight of the vampire screaming as if his life was being stuck out of his mouth. It was the first and last sound he made. Sunlight devoured him like fire meeting dry leaves. His skin blistered and blackened. His body crumpled and curled as smoke poured from his shrieking form. Within seconds, there was nothing left but ash swirling in the hot light.

I don't remember having a sacred book with me. Hold on. Could it be the book that I thought belonged to my mom? "It's the book you almost destroyed," he informed me. Oh, maybe that's why he texted me to not tear it up. At that time I was so confused and thought he was a stalker. Little did I know he was actually a blood-sucking demon. Or was he? "Since you're a vampire, do you drink blood?" I asked because from what I know, they're always thirsty for blood and he hasn't shown any sign of that.

“That was the lie we fed the wolves so they would deliver you to me broken and ripe. The real ritual requires the daughter to lie with the father under the red moon, to birth the Devouring God from incest and betrayal.” His thumb stroked my pulse. “You have done the hard part. You murdered mercy. You devoured your twin. You drank the Lycan King’s dying power. Now all that remains is the final sacrament.” He leaned in until his lips brushed mine. “Say yes, my moon. Say yes, and we will unmake the sun.” I felt the child inside me stretch toward him like a flower toward darkness. For one heartbeat, I wavered. I saw it: the world remade in our image.

Suddenly, the fear that the previous vampire had placed within my heart melted away. My breath was snatched as he said, "He should have known better than to touch what I have claimed." The first Devourer emerged from the cracks. Then another. Then another. Thousands of them crawled through the broken edges of creation, their bodies shifting between wolves, dragons, shadows, and things that had no shape at all. But every single one had the same target. Nara could sense the evil presence of the vampire, and she knew that this would be no easy fight. Suddenly, the vampire emerged from the shadows,also, its eyes glowing with an eerie, cold light that seemed to sap the warmth from the surrounding air. Its razor-sharp fangs gleamed in the moonlight, and its clawed hands flexed with an anticipation of battle. Without hesitation, Nara began to chant an ancient incantation in Latin, her voice resonating with a deep, commanding tone that seemed to shake the very earth. The incantation was a spell of desiccation, one that would slowly drain the life force from the vampire and render it powerless.

Using his speed, he closed the distance between him and the vampire and grabbed the Vampire by his neck, slamming him on the dumpster behind him. As Lumiére slammed the Vampire onto the dumpster, a loud clang echoed through the silent street. The Vampire struggled to free himself, but Lumiére had a tight grip on his neck, refusing to let go. The Vampire's eyes glowed red with fury as he hissed at Lumiére, attempting to bite him with his sharp fangs. Lumiére's strength was too much for the Vampire to handle. With a quick twist of his wrist, Lumiére snapped the Vampire's neck, causing it to go limp in his hand. The lifeless body of the Vampire fell to the ground with a thud.
