I was beginning to regret ever waking up because the moment I opened my eyes, my world went upside down and my best friend wasn’t the friend I knew and that hurt so much. It was the beginning of summer and I was out of school so I decided to go on a road trip with Raven. He didn’t know about the trip until the third day when I decided to let him know. At first, he was upset but got over it. He pulled out his phone and showed me the pictures I took from Mount Rushmore and had sent them to him. I was stunned. “And the best part is, we will have it all to ourselves.” I felt tears stinging my eyes, and blinked rapidly to keep them back. “I don’t even remember you saying anything like that, what the hell!” Adam chuckled. “Well, I do. So, what do you want to do first?” The first ride we went on was the one with the ponies. Adam explained that the rides were timed, and as long as the power was turned on and the relevant buttons were pressed. We chose one of the bigger ponies so we can sit together. He was at the front, and I was at the back. When the pony ride began, I held onto his waist for dear life, screaming and laughing as we went round and round.

The ride was two hours along winding coastal roads, past small fishing villages, coconut groves, and glimpses of turquoise sea. Music played low, windows open, breeze whipping through. Lucas sat next to me, arm resting casually on the back of the seat. “You excited?” he asked. “Yeah,” I said honestly. “I haven’t done something like this in forever.” He smiled. “Good. You deserve it.” Ji-yeon turned around from the seat in front. “Maverick’s already at the house. He went early to help set up.” I felt a small twist in my stomach at his name but kept my face neutral. “Oh. Cool.”

He then leaned in to whisper something to the teenage ride operator. Ruby seated her four foot tall teddy in the seat next to her as roth slid in beside her. Once they were secured, the ride jerked upward with a squeal. If Ruby hadn't grown up around old crankily rides she may have been concerned about the maintenance of this particular one.
