I did notice that one of your marks is superficial.” “Superficial?” “Yes. It's not common knowledge. A superficial mark isn't something a fated mate can give. The bonds this mark generates don't run as deep as a fated mark will go.” I was stunned. We definitely weren't taught this. “One of your marks is superficial…” “Which one?” “That I don't know darling, you'll have to find out by yourself.”

It was a warning. The woman who’d greeted us, their leader, moved with the kind of grace that made your instincts scream prey even when you knew better. She stopped at the heart of the camp and turned sharply. “Your names,” she demanded. Roman stepped forward first. “Roman Vale.” A ripple of recognition moved through the Hollowfangs. His reputation traveled farther than I’d realized. Then her gaze landed on me. Her smile curved slowly and sharp. “And you. The blood-marked one.”

But nothing came. The silence stretched. Then Rafe whispered, “Maddox… your neck.” My hand lifted automatically. I touched it. Blood. Warm and fresh. The tiny cut the woman gave me earlier… was bleeding again. But wounds don’t reopen on their own. I stared at the smear of red on my fingertips, heartbeat thundering. Jaxon’s voice dropped to a whisper. “It’s a mark. She marked you.” My wolf snarled, teeth snapping. “She marked me to get to her.” I snarled.

“I will… I will…” She hugged me again, even tighter. As she held me, the mark on my chest suddenly grew hot. It was so hot that I flinched.Then, without warning, a bright light burst from my chest and filled the entire court. Gasps filled the room. Everyone shielded their eyes as the light grew stronger until the whole hall glittered. The darkness outside even faded as if the sun had returned. “What is happening?” someone whispered. “She’s glowing!” another elder shouted. Then someone cried out, “She’s the Marked Luna!”

“It was just a one-night stand. That’s all.” But as I moved toward the mirror I froze. There, on the curve of my neck, etched into my skin was a mark. My eyes widened in horror. Azrik marked me.

Each symbol pulsed with a strange energy, making my heart race as I whispered the words aloud, one by one, my voice low and careful. The syllables felt heavy, like they carried the weight of centuries, but when I finished, nothing happened. Just silence, thick and heavy, pressing down on the clearing.I shifted my weight, dirt crunching under my boots, and that’s when I saw it—right at my feet, half-hidden in the earth, a single marking, different from the rest. It was smaller, almost delicate, but it thrummed with a quiet power, like a heartbeat trapped in the ground.
