I looked at him. "Don't." He stopped. "I'm not accusing you." "Good." "But we need to be careful." Lucian nodded. "Nobody leaves our sight." We continued. But I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching us. Hours later, the castle finally appeared. It was enormous. Black stone walls stretched across the mountain. Hundreds of torches surrounded it. And above the tallest tower hung a flag. A silver wolf beneath a red moon. I stopped. "We're here." Alex looked at me.

Reflected in the water is the moon, but it isn’t silver or white. It’s red. Blood red. A deep, sickening shade that churns my stomach. What the hell is this? My head jerks up. Sure enough, looming above the trees, the moon glares down at me in that same crimson shade. That’s not normal. That’s not right. A jolt of fear cuts through me. I remember collapsing in the castle, coughing up blood as palace workers scrambled to help. Their voices had become distant. Fading. Was I dead?

He reached for me. “Now we strike.” ***** And far above us, in a tower soaked in moonlight, the witch lit a candle of bone and ash. She whispered one last spell. “Let love rot. Let ruin bloom.”

AUTHOR’S POV Odessa looked around for the fifth time and tip-toed a few distance ahead before pausing again to look around like a sneaky thief. She didn't know if she should curse or bless the moon goddess, as the full moon tonight was a bittersweet occurrence. The bright, luminous moonlight spilled into the castle through every crack and opening that it could pass through. Odessa had to rely on shadows to hide her appearance, but there was only so much one could do to hide in the shadows cast by the moonlight.

Logan bought me food on the way, so I didn't need to eat more. ... At nine o'clock the following day, I was in front of Moon Castle. I have long heard this castle's reputation for a long time; its grandeur and magnificence cannot be fully expressed in pictures; when I witnessed it with my own eyes, I was deeply overwhelmed. Moon Castle appeared in the early years when Dark Moon was founded and has existed for decades. Time does not make it fade but adds to it a mysterious and ancient look. It is considered a great work, a typical symbol of the Dark Moon. So it was preserved by the Alpha generations of Dark Moon until now.

Andros alerted and we travelled down a steep hill before taking the path straight to where a ruined castle stood. I knew this castle from history but never thought that it would exist. It was said that the moon goddess once resided in this castle deep in the forest before her Ascension to heavens which was caused by a war which broke out between her and the god of the vampires. I had always thought that it was mere fables but staring at it now and remembering what I had read, it was all a true story.

Chapter 25: The Bitter Distance The moon hung low over the kingdom of Zorana, casting a pale, silvery light over the castle walls. The air was thick with the scent of rain, and yet, the coldness inside the castle seemed to seep deeper with each passing day. I gasped as the illusion crumbled entirely—the grand castle was never real. We weren’t inside a fortress at all. Instead, I found myself standing in an open field, the cold earth beneath me, surrounded by flickering torches and swirling shadows.

KYLA POV The moon hung heavy above us, swollen with silver light, casting everything in that eerie glow that made even broken things look beautiful. The battlefields were far behind, the war drums silenced—for now. Windsor, Aldrian, the traitors, the scars, the missing pieces of my past… all still real. But here, right now, on the castle balcony—there was peace. At least enough for one breath.

Dimitri stopped a few yards away from the break in the trees causing the rest of the pack to come to a stop as well. Across a wide clearing rose a massive castle-like structure. It honestly surprised me that there wasn't a moat surrounding the place, but there was a large wall of shrubs that circled the side and back of the building. "Seems a bit dramatic, don't you think?" I asked Dimitri. "I agree, but they are Strigoi. I'm sure they think they're untouchable, and the way they live just proves that. However, we both know that they're completely touchable and a little tasty." He chuckled the last part when my stomach growled softly.
