I stepped closer to the scene, my Lycan straining, ready to take control and hunt down whatever threat still lingered in the shadows. Adriana and Daemon didn’t need to say it—we all knew this probably wouldn’t be the last time we would have to deal with rogues, wolf or otherwise. But as I stood there, watching them, I made a silent vow: whatever it took, I’d fight beside them until this war was over. Delilah’s expression darkened. “They’ve taken her north. But there’s more—they’re using wolfsbane and dark magic. Lucienne’s in grave danger.”

I did not understand why she was saying all that, but her words threw my mind into chaos again. "Alaric is no good. He's actually a necromancer from the neighboring village. Your father paid a tremendous price to buy materials from him to preserve the body. "That stuff… is refined from the dead." My breathing hitched. She kept going.

I left my throne room and began my journey to the cages. The Cages was where I kept prisoner various beasts that I had captured through my conquests on various worlds. To sate my bloodlust and maniacal rage, I fought these creatures barehanded. One was already prepped down for me. A Necro. A Necro was a four limbed beast with scally skin. A mixture of a reptile and feline. It fed on the dead and used their rots as nutrient. It was also hard to kill. It was also a fast healer and adapted to attacks with quick recovery.

“I need to leave, we don’t have anything left here to do.” “So we are safe and we would not need to do anything again?” I asked her and she nodded. “All that is left is for our legacies to realize their fate.” Themis said absentmindedly before she smiled at me, her attention coming back to her surroundings. “But that will be a long time for now seeing that the Legacies are not yet born.”

Nathan quickly interjected with tangible vexation at the sound of my father's choice of words, earning himself a scowl from him. "You shut up," He swiftly bit back at him with a pointed look, making him bristle as he peered between the two of us, but thankfully didn't continue arguing. Blowing out a tired sigh, my father lowered himself into a crouching position so that he could be at the same eye-level with me, resting his elbows over his knees as he started to explain, "Carina, we're...You, and me and your sister, we're not humans either. We share an ancient bloodline, the shaman bloodline. Our veins are filled with magic,"

Their mouths gaped, sewn shut with thread that glowed faintly, trapping centuries of screams. They had once been warriors. Wolves. Mages. Leaders. Banished, betrayed, erased. Now, they belonged to me. A figure emerged from the skeletal trees. He was tall, draped in rotting velvet that reeked of earth and decay. His face was hidden by a jagged mask fashioned from bone. The Necromancer. “You summoned me,” he rasped, his voice grating like stone on stone. “You know the price.” I rose to my feet, my shadow stretching across the poisoned earth in ways no living thing’s should. “I’ve already paid.”

If I’m ever to stand a chance of beating Cain and Aeron, then I need to learn it, and learn it fast. The problem is, all it seemed to have is chapters on genealogy, different traits and an annoying amount on mating and birthing pups. It seems the entire Wolf world is obsessed with the notion of having offspring. I run my hand over my necklace. Maybe the Pack Witch might be able to help me hide my thoughts from Aeron and Cain? Although, even if she could, I doubt I’d be let near her, nor would she help me. Like Dylan, she works for them. She isn’t on my side. No one is.

Perhaps she is finally seeing that she doesn’t have to hide anymore. I know shadows, darkness, and death have always been a part of my life. I’ve never feared any of it. I’ve used the shadows and darkness to hide in plain sight when I’m on missions. I command the shadows to teleport me where I want. I can manipulate them to bend to my will. I'm a necromancer. I play with death by stopping people from dying, bringing them back to life if necessary, and even taking their life. My ability as a necromancer allows me to remove souls directly from their bodies. It’s why I get the complex missions.
