the nurse looked yearning. “I don’t mind giving you one,” Jai offered. The nurse widened her eyes, surprised by his generosity. She looked towards the lobby before leaning closer to him and whispered. “I’m still on the clock. My supervisor is right there…” she pointed to the lobby where there were three nurses managing the counter. There was a woman nurse with different outfit. She was wearing green instead of the ordinary white one, which Jai assumed was because she was the superior. “Oh, well, anytime,” Jai flashed her a smile, which made her blush.

She just realized that she was in a Narathama care room, so there must be an indoor garden nearby to get some fresh air. “One moment, ma’am.” A nurse responded to Lara’s call. Shortly after, a curly-haired woman appeared, smiling at her. “Yes, ma’am?” she asked cheerfully. The nurse was quite young, probably only a few years older than Lara. Her smile was bright, and Lara liked her a lot. “I’d like to take a walk, Nurse. Could you accompany me?” Lara requested. The nurse nodded, then recorded the fetal chart before carefully detaching the cables from Lara’s body.

But hey, it’s crazy enough that apparently, I was in the future when all I could remember was the past. “I was sent by the doctor to come help you to the bathroom,” the nurse knocked on my door politely before she entered. She was a petite-looking nurse who was humble and obviously loved her job. Trust me, I’d seen nurses who absolutely hated their jobs but this one was different. “Yes, thank you,” I said while she walked up to me and we started the struggle of getting me to stand. It was very hard and my body was really weak. I was shaking like I was going to dismantle like the walls of Jericho.

I leave the spot my dad has caged us and rush up to the doctor. “The nurse will take you all to meet her.” He says softly and pats my shoulder. Much better! I nod and sniff back my tears before murmuring my thanks. I watch him phone the station and a nurse in her mid-thirties shows up. Her uniform isn't the brightest, her hair seems outdated… but that isn't important right now. She stops by the doctor and he tells her his request. “Alright,” she walks up to us. “This way, please.”

Luckily, the man didn’t argue, simply glared one last time at the nurse before leaving. “You know, I was perfectly capable of taking care of myself. It is because of you that we all must put up with this crap now.” Nurse Margaret huffed. Sighing, I looked the nurse over and saw she was probably around thirty years old. She had chestnut brown hair and golden eyes. She was pretty, but she looked sounded like she smokes two packs a day and cared more about her looks than her job.

Ella dashed right into the hospital. She didn't care if she was looking out of place or the curious look people gave her as she made hastily made her way to the nurse up desk. Her heart thumped greatly within. "My son! Where is he?" She slammed her hands on the slab, causing the fragile looking nurse to jump up. She was pretty and beautifully small. Looking at the old lady, the nurse's eyes lit up. The tag on her scrub read "Anita Smith". It was obvious she was newly employed or just transferred. It wasn't everyday one got to meet such a big woman who made impacts in the country.

Her curious gaze met mine a few times until she couldn't resist and approached. “Your leg looks really hurt, dear,” she commented with genuine concern. I looked at my leg and replied, “It's okay. Herbs will heal it.” The lady gave me an incredulous look. “You should go to the doctor. Have you been to the hospital?” I frowned. “What is a doctor? And a hospital?” The woman laughed, finding humor in my ignorance. “I'm a nurse. A doctor takes care of people when they're sick or injured. A hospital is a place where they do that.”

In the midst of her brooding, a nurse approaches, her demeanor polite and professional, offering assistance. "Are you here to see the doctor? Do you have an appointment?" the nurse inquires in a courteous manner, oblivious to the tension between Melissa and Jay. However, Melissa's anger gets the better of her, and she turns her head sharply, fixing a spiteful gaze on the nurse.

Now, all that remained was execution. The nurse—a short woman in her early forties with kind eyes—stood by the counter, preparing syringes and instruments. She glanced at the monitor again, then approached Imani’s side with clinical efficiency. NURSE (softly, almost motherly) We’re nearly ready now, Miss Adeyemi. Just a few more checks and we’ll take you into theatre. Imani didn’t respond immediately. She let the silence stretch, allowed the nurse to think she was lost in pain or fear. Then, slowly, she turned her head. Her voice, when it came, was hushed and laced with weariness.

For all I know, they are friends with Ruben, and I don’t want to spoil anything between them. An hour later they left and promised to be back in the morning and made me promise of course, that if there was any news or Madi woke up I was to reach out to them straight away. Now I’m listening to the machines making their whirring and beeping noises. The door opens and a nurse in scrubs comes in, she looks to be in her mid to late thirties, her dark hair tied in a ponytail. “How you doing?” she asks as she checks the monitors, takes a look at Madi and checks the IV bag by her side. I watch as she makes some notes on the chart at the foot of the bed.
