I met her gaze with that same unflinching calm, the kind Adam thought me to put on. “Restraint,” i said softly, “is only a virtue when one knows what lies beneath it. Don't you think? The Queen’s smile deepened , “Indeed.” The rest of the court followed our exchange like spectators at a duel. I rolled my eyes internally. Every of their gesture meant something; like every word drew blood without spilling a drop. Even Kaid, who knew how to read war in silence, could feel the pulse of something much older and deep in the Queen’s composure.

His eyes darkened, his breath hitching. “Are you not afraid of being caught?” he groaned. “Poisoning the King is treason.” The Queen smirked, her hands moving to the buttons of his shirt. “I am wise enough to play the game correctly. I know when to make the right move.” Her fingers brushed his chest, moving lower until she set him free. “I know when to hold,” she hissed, her hand firm stroking him. “When to release.” she opened her palm, lifting her long dress and climbing on top of him.

For a moment, she seemed unable to hear or process the words. "What?" The Grand Steward pressed his forehead to the floor, his voice shaking. "Her Highness took Rebirth from the royal treasury and gave it to Ms. Vancrest. She has already left Karsden with it." A deafening shock struck the Queen. Her body swayed, and she clutched the throne's armrest to steady herself. Her commanding gaze shattered, replaced by raw shock, disbelief, and rising, catastrophic fury.
