The Secret Midwife Novels & Stories

The midwife started only to gulp down hard when she saw the pair of scissors pointing straight for her throat. Cynthia’s eyes fell on Maya who was still going through so much pain trying to push out the second baby. She took a glance at the other end where two nurses were cleaning the first one. “No one other than us must know about the second child. Not even the father.” “But that’s against our policies–” “I don’t think you love how smooth your neck looks, I meant what I said. One of those babies must be kept a secret.” “The baby’s almost out!” One of the nurses exclaimed and almost immediately, Maya made her final push and a loud shrill cry from the baby filled the ward.

“You don’t get to stand here and act like a victim, Victoria. You knew exactly what this engagement was.” " Just stop playing the victim here Victoria" he said not turning to look at her. " Oh wow I'm playing the victim you say. Drake you know, I agreed to all this for your image but I won't let you humiliate me. What do you want people to think of le when they find out about your "Secret"? Worst of it all with your office boy" She said her nose flaring in anger. " Leave! I said leave Victoria! I'm not having this conversation with you."

"Excuse me?" Noah let out a low whistle. "Damn. And here I thought my hacking skills were top-tier. How the hell did you keep that a secret?" Beckett looked at Liam, wide-eyed. "So, wait. The proposal was just for show? Then who's the real wife?" George leaned in, enjoying their reactions. "She’s twenty." Beckett nearly choked on his drink. "Oh, so it’s a scandal too. The cold, untouchable Liam Hart has been secretly playing house with a college girl. What’s next? You got a toddler running around too?"

She called it sacrifice. Maybe both were true. He never recovered. And I was foolish enough to think I could fill the space she left behind. One drunken night, I became the woman he hid from the world. His assistant. His secret wife. The mother of the son he never claimed. That morning, I printed two documents: my divorce papers and my resignation letter. When my coworker leaned over my desk, she frowned. “You’re really quitting, Jo?” I forced a small smile. “Yeah. My son’s father works overseas. I’m taking my boy there. It’s time we’re together as a family.”

She ignores George and starts to walk out of the office without another word. The way she walked out of the office alarmed George. He switches his computer on and sees the screen blank with one word on it. BOO… He sees his computer has a virus. His eyes widen he picks up the landline and calls security. “The girl that left my office find her!” he shouts. ============= Olivia Herrington POV

“The family left. Everyone’s gone. What do you want to do? I can call for your mother–” “Don’t,” I rush out, shaking my head. “Not yet.” “We need to confirm you are, in fact, pregnant,” she says. “I don’t want anyone to know if I am.” “I understand. There’s a healer at the clinic downstairs who I know is discreet. She’s a midwife. I’ll speak to her in the morning and bring her here to confirm it.” “And then what?” I ask as fatigue washes through my body. She chews her lower lip, shaking her head. “I don’t know, Maeve. We’ll keep it a secret, if that’s what you want. But you’ll start to show, and from there, your family should know.”

“Tell him I waited…” “No!” the maid sobbed, her grip tightening. “You shall tell him yourself! You will hold your child in your arms, and you will call your husband’s name, do you hear me?” But the woman’s head lolled to the side, her mouth parted in silent prayer. Her skin, bathed in sweat, began to pale beneath the flickering firelight. The midwife felt for movement beneath her hands. Her face blanched. “The child lives,” she whispered, “but he will not last long.”

She breathed hard like someone who had been running before, “Is there any problem?” Was she in the middle of anything before I called? I bet she thought it was an emergency. “It’s not an emergency but what I’m calling for is also very important. Can you give me information on the nurses who assisted you when you gave birth to Jordan?” I heard her heave a sigh of relief from the other end, “Oh, that?” “Yes.” “They’re the only two midwives at the moment who took a non-disclosure oath since their appointment. They can’t snitch on anything that has to do with this castle to anyone else.” She explained, “But one of them is new.”

I say. The nurse smiles and nods. “I’m a midwife, I’m used to it, but usually the she-wolves I attend understand what I’m doing…and don’t threaten me.” “She’s a queen,” Kane says. Apparently, that’s enough of an explanation for the midwife. She pushes the bassinet over to the bed and lifts the baby into her arms. “Look at him,” I say, trying my best to ignore my snarling wolf. “He’s so beautiful.”

"We have to get you to a hospital." "Please, no hospital." For a moment, the woman remained silent, watching me and debating whether or not she should listen to me or not. When she finally let out a long breath and nodded, I closed my eyes and let out a relieved sigh. "Marshal!" The woman yelled at the shopkeeper. "Help me get this young lady to the back office." "But Patricia!" Marshal barked, seeming genuinely shocked. "We don’t know the first thing..." "I do!" A woman with brown hair and deep green eyes announced. "I’m a midwife. I can help with the delivery."
