Kamrynn's POV The room was eerily silent, the only sound the faint tinkle of glass settling amidst the shattered remnants of the chandelier. The scene before us was one of utter devastation, but the silence didn’t last long. "Father! No!" Thalia's anguished scream pierced the stillness, shattering it into pieces. Her voice was raw, trembling with heartbreak, and it echoed off the walls of the grand hall like a haunting refrain.

"What? Do you think I'm making this up to scare you?" The warm light from above cast a slanted shadow on the edge of the table. He stared at me, and for once, didn't rush to deny anything. "You broke up with me…because of this?" I almost laughed. "Does it even matter now? Even if I were healthy, I never would have lasted long enough for you to finally turn around and look at me. I overheard your friends talking. Apparently, I wasn't even someone you'd be willing to settle for. I used to think we'd actually make it to the end."

The city had gone quiet in the strangest way. No sirens. No hum of traffic. No wind. Just silence — as if the world itself were waiting for a verdict. Alina stood at the edge of the ruined rooftop, ash clinging to her hair, the dark skyline flickering in fractured bursts of light. The fragments in her palm were no longer glowing, yet every few seconds she felt a tremor run through them — a heartbeat that wasn’t hers. Nathan stepped up beside her, his voice low. “Everything’s powered down. But that silence … it’s not peace. It’s waiting.”

Even the teachers seemed uneasy. She turned onto her side, glancing at her nightstand. The silver sand was gone. But just as she started to relax, a faint whisper echoed through her room. “Anna…” She shot up, heart pounding. “Who’s there?” Silence. Her eyes darted to the mirror across the room. A shadow moved. And then— The glass cracked. --- The Shattered Reflection Anna’s breath hitched in her throat as the mirror’s surface cracked, splitting into jagged lines that seemed to pulse with a strange, ominous energy. She couldn’t move, her body frozen in place as if the room itself was holding her captive.

"You were never broken. I just. I didn't listen. I thought if I could just make things perfect for you, then that would set everything right. But I didn't take the time to listen to you. To look at you." She stared at him, her face impassive. The silence stretched out between them once again, but this time it wasn't suffocating. It seemed instead as though it was shared, a country in which the past could be acknowledged but never pulled into the foreground. A place where the potential for more need not ever be spoken aloud.

Lyra shouted back, “Then break the rules!” Their bond—sealed in fire and moonlight—ignited between them. Power erupted in a wave of gold and crimson, light searing the darkness. The Gate’s voice cracked. Stone collapsed. Reality trembled. And then— Silence. A single pulse echoed through the world. Not of pain. But of acceptance. The Gate shattered. And Lyra and Kael fell— Not into death— But back into the world. ⸻ Forest of the Hollowed Ones Lyra gasped as air filled her lungs.

I don’t know what draws me to this room, but I feel a pull and I follow it. When I open the doors, I stop short. The entire room has been destroyed. There is shattered glass everywhere, the decorations that were once beautiful and elegant are scattered, torn and broken, all over the floor. The concrete walls have holes in them whre it looks like someone took a hammer or large rock and smashed the walls until they started to give. I continue to walk around the castle, hearing the sounds of my men checking in the rooms, doors opening and closing.

The water was clear enough for me to see every rock that covered the bottom of it, every color could be seen. "Subhanallah" I whispered as I heard birds chirping around me. The first time I talked my throat felt like sandpaper no one said a word when it came to my past, they knew it all from going through the journal that had been my only companion in the darkness I came from, I didn't say anything when Myra returned the journal to me with tears in her eyes and I looked away from the sympathetic gazes of my family.

She was powerful and could even be more powerful than now. We all stood still for a few seconds, breathless and shaking. The silence after chaos was deafening. Sherry’s shield had obliterated the shadows, turning them to dust in a wave of blinding light. The air still shimmered with the aftershock—like reality itself was trying to realign.

What kind of strength lets you fade? I clenched the edge of the table, knuckles white. My heart thundered beneath my ribs, loud in the silence. I could still feel the echo of Cassian’s voice in the hall, his venomous words cutting through me like a blade. The silence that followed. The shame that bloomed afterward like rot in my chest. I had let them strip me bare, peel away every layer of who I was until all that remained was this quiet, shattered version of myself. And yet… here I was.
