The lion started struggling with Ruffus on his back, trying to fling him off but Ruffus maintained his grip on him, biting every corner of his body. Ruffus is a very smart and intelligent wolf who wants to do things all by himself and never wants any distractions. When he saw that the lion had started getting weak, he jumped down from him.
