(Almira’s POV) I stood on the deck of the luxurious cruise ship, watching the frenzied celebration of the wolf packs. The void within me grew deeper. This is the annual Hunt Festival for all werewolves, a highly anticipated event akin to a year-end celebration. This year, it was hosted by the strongest wolf pack in North America. Not only did they provide expensive drinks, but they also gathered werewolves from various packs, greatly increasing our chances of finding mates.

Dozens of heavily armed hunters surrounded Alaric, who did not stop howling. The big wolf was pressed and had trouble escaping nor could he put up any resistance. His howl did not stop echoing throughout the forest, a howl that meant a call to every member of his pack. The Hunters prepared to draw their long-barreled weapons in a calculated manner, smiles of satisfaction on their faces as they assumed that absolute victory was within their grasp.

"The winter hunt is old. Older than the packs. Older than the wolves. It tests a wolf's strength, her skill, her courage. It tests what she is made of." He looked at me, and I saw something in his eyes that might have been hope. "The half-blood will lead the hunt. She will track the elk through the forest, bring it down with her own claws, and return to the pack with proof of her kill." He stepped back. "If she succeeds, she will be Luna. If she fails..." He didn't finish. He didn't need to. I stepped forward, my head high, my voice steady. "I will succeed."

Keep working together, keep your mind sharp, and may the best wolf succeed. He then transformed into a wolf and let out a powerful howl, announcing the beginning of the hunt. In a blur of fur and teeth, the pack charged forward. I shifted and jumped into the forest, feeling the adrenaline rush of the hunt. The trees obscured as I attempted to keep up, pushing my muscles harder than any time in recent memory. Naturally, Dahlia and Markus led, but I stayed close and refused to fall behind. The sound of our thunderous paws sent deer, wild boar, and even smaller animals running away, filling the air with the scent of their prey.

I had hope that it wouldn't just happen now. But like every other year, at this point I would wish that my name wasn't my name. I would wish that I wasn't Allison Bush, the last air of the Bush who actually is the only one that turns into a full wolf on a full moon. I was trying to run from that and some other things..
