“My instructions were to get you there as soon as possible.” Thankful for the reprieve, Charles grabbed his suitcase and followed the driver outside. He placed his luggage in the back, then chose to sit in the seat next to the driver. There was no way he wanted to be stuck in the backseat. Even if there hadn’t been a carnivorous reporter back there, Charles knew he’d be carsick by the second turn. Thankfully the road was straight and the desert flat, so Charles didn’t have to pull out his emergency motion sickness medicine and his plastic puke bag that he always brought with him when traveling.

A wave of nausea passed over me. The truck driver had already tried to speak to me as we had attempted to help Charlie while we waited for the ambulance. The driver was seemingly uninjured, though more than shaken up, saying Charlie had come from nowhere. I couldn't say that he was wrong. He had. I could only assume that, because of his tiredness and his angriness, Charlie had been so distracted and he had not noticed the sound of the truck nor the lights until it was too late.

Sitting on the bed, he tugged at the tie around his neck. He felt that there must be something wrong! The result from the hospital in Athana was right, so Dr. Zack must be wrong. 'Dr. Zack gave me two examinations in the past. If there was something wrong with the first examination, what about the second time?' Charlie recovered quickly. Three days later, he and Billy took a plane back to Santabaca. The flight departed at noon and arrived in Santabaca in the evening. Charlie was a little hungry and wanted to eat something. Billy said he had something to deal with, so he left.

It was so cold and even snowing too hard but the two motherfucker lovebirds wanted to go fishing in a freaking frozen lake. “We save the damn world and I’m still not allowed to incinerate people for fun. Where’s the justice in that?” Cheyenne smirked, cracked her neck, and muttered, “I swear, if I don’t get back to my mate and some hot water soon, someone’s gunna catch these hands.” Charlie emerged from the smoke, his long coat fluttering behind him, completely unbothered. “I take it we’re done here?” he asked dryly. Cheyenne snorted. “Oh, we’re done. Done done. Take-us-home-and-feed-us-something-that's-not-trauma done.”

"Oh, it's nothing. Feeling better?" "Not really. It's your fault for being so rough last night." Shanine started complaining again. So, we spent the rest of the journey taking turns resting. In between, I managed to end up close to Phoebe three more times. By the time the train finally arrived, night had already fallen. When we got off, I noticed Phoebe's clothes were clinging tightly to her body, damp with sweat. Even her stockings had grown slightly damp from all the touching earlier. Yet somehow it only made her figure stand out more.

It didn’t slam—it wasn’t designed to slam, Charley realized as she watched it seal into place. But he’d wanted it to slam, the grim, spoiled, arrogant devil. Then she looked down at the bra she now held in her fingers, glanced at her body, and blushed to the roots of her hair. They finished the rest of the journey in a state of cool withdrawal from each other, scattered with super-polite snatches of conversation now and then. Charley ate; he didn’t; instead, he drank coffee, and no hint of alcohol in any form made an appearance.

Charlie walks over to a computer and starts typing away. He jots down a couple numbers on a paper, before looking at Jenna and me. “Hop into the golf cart and I will drive you over to where your mother and father’s things have been stored,” Charlie says as he walks out from behind the counter and over to a golf cart. Jenna and I get in, as Charlie takes the driver’s seat. He ambles along slowly chatting with Jenna about her due date and what she is hoping for.

" Heard you travelled half of the world already?" Noah nods. Not saying much. Just tracing the rim of his glass with his fingers, staring at the liquid. Placing his hand on Noah's thigh, Charlie brings him out of his trance.

Fabiana found it tedious. "Do you have anything planned for tonight?" Charlie asks as he and Fabiana walk out of the classroom. "I need to study for a biology exam and you're a biology genius." What if you could come over and help me with my homework? Trifles are a specialty of my mother. Charlie is well aware of Fabiana's penchant for her mother's nonsense. Fabiana appreciates the frankness of Charlie's mother. She seems to be just like everyone else.
