The laughter broke loose, though not unkindly. Even the boy chuckled as he pushed himself up. “Okay, fine. Not as easy as it looks.”
“Exactly.” Cheyenne’s smile softened. “Control comes before power. If you can’t keep steady on a stick, you’ll be an easy target in a fight. Let’s try again. All of you.”
They lined up, one by one crossing the makeshift balance beam. Some managed with surprising grace, others stumbled spectacularly. When one pup tried to sprint across and belly-flopped into the dirt, the group erupted into giggles.
