I say again, louder this time. My reflection disagrees. I can see it in my own eyes—the truth I'm trying to bury. I didn't do the right thing. I did the safe thing. The selfish thing. The cowardly thing. My fist connects with the mirror before I realize I'm moving. Glass explodes. Pain radiates up my arm, sharp and immediate. Blood wells from cuts across my knuckles, dripping into the sink. I stare at the blood spreading across white porcelain. "This is nothing," I whisper to the shattered reflection. "Nothing compared to what I did to her."

Another internal wire popped. Dante realized with terrifying clarity that the supercavitation bubble was beginning to thin.
