One can easily tell a water's worth when a well is dried out. ✾ The night was cold as it was harsh. I’ve read in one of my books that since the sun is gone, the heat with it leaves too. The sand and gravel that is around this whole landscape acts like a mirror for the sky. I find myself shivering and hugging myself for warmth. Even the small lamp didn’t offer any sort of comfort. Kofi seemed like he was alright, though, although he was shivering, it wasn’t as much as I was.

"Yes, Sir. We did it. We’ve won." Outside the window, the sun began to rise, illuminating the same sky that had once witnessed my downfall, but which now also bore witness to my rise. I knew this journey was not yet over, but at least for now, I could breathe easy. I had proven that the truth will always prevail in the end, even if it sometimes has to travel a long and winding path to get there.

I stare at the house, and say my goodbyes to it. I don’t know why, but I’ll miss this place. Or maybe it’s the absolute peace that I’ll miss the most. The nature, too. We don’t even have sunlight downstairs. We live like rats burrowed in a hole in the ground. But I’m not shaming it. It’s what we have to do to survive. To stay hidden. That’s who we are. Warriors. People willing to do anything for the greater good. It’s about time that I take pride in that.

As the sun began to set, Matteo sat on the porch with Lucia in his lap, humming softly while Federico dozed beside them in a lawn chair.
