He said our father was sitting right in the center of the bell. The SUV rounded a final, sharp curve, and the Castle of Aethelgard appeared out of the white mist like a ghost made of stone. It was a monumental fortress built directly into the sheer cliff face of a towering mountain peak, its white granite walls blending perfectly with the surrounding snow fields. It had been constructed in the eleventh century by the first lineage of the Silverbacks, a massive complex of defensive towers, narrow arrow-slits, and heavy stone bastions that overlooked the entire valley below. There were no modern Aegis signs, no enforcers in iron masks, and no tactical barriers. The castle stood silent, dark, a

Technically, as long as we didn’t pass him, the Second Guardian hadn’t failed in his duty. The castle had the four towers we’d seen from the edge of the forest, tall and imposing, but the rest was seriously dilapidated. It looked like a ruin that had been left to slowly rot and crumble over many centuries, or a particularly rough weekend. Walls had fallen and there was no roof to speak of. And then there were all the skulls. “I’m not very keen on the decor,” muttered Dudley. “Yeah,” said Maurice. “They look like human skulls. Small humans.”

If she hadn't been quick to hide herself earlier, she would have already been found by Larissa! … The castle was located in the deepest part of the Twilight Group's territory, taking up a huge piece of the land. The place was covered with overgrown weeds that were so thick that it practically covered up the entire wire mesh fence. Looking from afar, the castle stood in solitude with a thick layer of mist surrounding it. The tower's pointy tip looked like sharp blades that were keeping trespassers out. Larissa frowned as she looked at the hole in the wire mesh fence. "Is this where MAVIS went in from?"

Of course, it paled in both aesthetics and structure if compared to the Tower of Babel, but still, it was without a doubt a Castle worthy to house a future Duke. This castle was inhabited by Leonard Gorfard. Eldest son of the Duke Gorfard and heir to his title and territories. If one were to be asked to describe him, they would give you a list of all of his good points and merits. A list so long and exaggerated that you would wonder how such a perfect human being could even exist. And you would be absolutely right in your doubts. Perfection along with other things that were absolute, never truly existed in the realms of reality.

Hundreds of Shadows marched towards the darkness. Their boney feet sink against the mud. "Prepare yourselves." Katalka, the leader, reminded his army. His voice was laced with dread and regret after seeing the decimated castle. The once proud castle of Shaldan was now nothing but a ruin and a landmark. A symbol of the past — and lair to their Mistress. To their Creator, Ursula, the Wicked Witch. Half of the Castle was beginning to crumble. If strong winds blow against the castle walls, a few dents and rocks are visibly blown away.

Lifting a hand, I motioned for the others to stop as I continued to let my eyes take in the area. I had always known that Doragon were more primitive than other packs, but I hadn’t expected it to be to this extent. Up ahead was a large black castle with flags that rose into the sky the color of blood. Stakes with what I assumed were the heads of their enemies were scattered around the grounds. Some of which still seemed to be fresh, while others were in different forms of decay. The whole thing was encased by a large metal gate with sharp spikes, ensuring that no one could escape and, even more importantly, that no one could get in. It seemed that infiltrating the area was going to be more d

Rosy beamed, tugging at my skirts. Yuri scowled. "No, Rosy, this is the most horrible day of our lives. Dominic... the dance... our home. We are slaves to the terrible Utgardr Queen!" "I rather like this castle." Rosy stuck out her tongue and kicked Yuri's heel. Yuri yipped and knuckled Rosy's head. They were squabbling, even in the heart of the Northern Holds in enemy terrain.

It was a short distance for them to move into the castle ground when the grunt of horses and the sound of tires groaning over the cobblestone rang in the air. Isolde looked back as did Roga, and they both saw the incoming wagon. "Move aside!" The rider, an old male with a weathered face, howled at the people blocking his path as he tugged on the reins, gearing the horses forward until they approached the castle gates. Isolde grew curious and turned to Roga, her eyes asking the unspoken question. 'What's the wagon doing here?' She hurried through the portcullis with Roga jumping fast on
