His eyes were serious, filled with a love so deep she felt her legs weaken.
“Give me your wrist,” he asked, his voice a gentle command.
She extended her left arm, the thin gold bracelet she always wore glinting faintly. Valentim took her wrist with one hand, his grip firm but tender. With the other hand, still stained red, he pressed his finger against the sensitive skin of her inner wrist. The sensation was cold, then warm. When he pulled away, an identical mark to the one on the sculpture was there—a perfect red circle on her pale skin, like a seal.
