PERKS OF THE POSITION
Only a single candle flickering inside a crystal hurricane lamp, two glasses of vintage Pinot Noir, and the quiet, low hum of the rain pressing against the arched leaded-glass windows.
Across from me sat Veronica.
She was wearing a dark midnight-blue silk dress that draped elegantly over her shoulders, completely concealing the faint shadow of her healing injury. Her silver-rimmed spectacles sat delicately on the bridge of her nose, reflecting the soft candlelight as she scanned an encrypted dossier resting beside her wine glass. Her dark hair was swept up into a sleek chignon, exposing the long, slender line of her neck.
She looked entirely lethal. She looked devastatingly beautiful.
