Panic flashed in his eyes, pure, unfiltered panic. “What the hell… are you okay?” I knelt beside him, reaching out to help, but the moment my fingers brushed his skin, he jerked violently and vomited more blood. I pulled back, but my eyes stayed locked on his. Something was wrong. I looked down at my hand, still resting on his arm, and noticed the skin beneath my fingers. His veins were turning black, dark lines spreading out like cracks in glass. They kept moving, snaking up through his chest, his neck, his face, until they reached his eyes.

More veins stretched downward beneath his collar. "What is that?" I asked, rushing toward him. But the veins were spreading from the source of the injury. At the back of his neck, deep claw marks had turned a dark purplish blue. I could not even begin to understand what I was looking at.

I placed one hand on the mid column of my neck trying to stop the uncomfortable feeling. I looked at my reflection on the mirror of the dresser opposite to my bed. My skin turned paler than a white paper. Blue veins were prominent . My irises were deep crimson red. My canines extended not in wolf teeth but vampire's. It had been a long time since I had blood.

I put my hand on my forehead and waited for everything to stop moving. The black veins caught my eye. They were worse. So much worse. Yesterday, they had only been on my hands and wrists, creeping up my arms like dark little rivers under my skin. Now they had spread past my elbows. I could see them clearly through my nightgown, crawling up toward my shoulders. When I touched my neck, I felt the bumpy lines there too. They had reached my collarbone. I was running out of time.

Black spots danced in and out like they were testing how far they could go before I dropped. I waited it out, counting sheeps slowly in my head until the spinning eased enough for me to stand. Each step toward the mirror felt heavier than it should have. And when I finally looked? I went completely still. The veins had changed though they appear faint and one will miss if you weren’t looking for them. But they were darker now and it wasn’t just around the mark. They’d spread slightly witj thin lines branching just beneath the skin creeping downward toward my chest like cracks in glass.

She got some of the sheets on her naked body before walking into the bathroom. She closed the door before her and hurriedly did her business. She was by the sink washing her hands when she felt a prickly pain on her neck. Looking up to stare at the oval mirror above the sink and in front of her, she quickly saw the bruise on the right side of her neck. It was dark red and turning purplish slowly. It wasn't too prominent but it was visible and anyone could easily see it if her neck was exposed.

A surreal glow from below grabbed her attention and upon glancing down, the fascinating scenery put her in awe. Blue veins stretched from her toes and into the floor, branching out into other veins that spread out across the whole floor and walls, going beyond the still curtains. The same situation occurred with Bjorn’s feet and as the snaky blue veins dotted the ceiling like the branches of a tree, the small platform in front of Mel glowed a soft ashen colour, shifting the shimmering blue to a light grey.
