That's a good sign. 3:01 AM My chest felt tight, my body burned and ached all over it felt like I was in a burning furnace while being stoned with rocks. But I'm asleep, right? So what is going on? I turned on my bed, trying to force myself back into a deep slumber but it wasn't working, my breathing turned heavy and my heart raced. I could feel my chest splitting. No… it can't be… I woke up with a start, shooting upright. My pulse jumped as I realized what was going on.

Heart racing. A single thought burning through his mind without reason. Something has just gone terribly wrong.

I whisper, trying to create a sense of safety amidst the tension. Even though I was telling her to relax, it felt like I should be telling that to my own heart instead. It was pounding intensely, each beat resonating through my chest with alarming force, as if it were a ticking time bomb on the verge of exploding. The rapid thumping was so relentless that I could feel the blood rushing in my ears, heightening my sense of worry.

Beneath me Marco stiffens, before stating with a drunk slur in his words. “Water… I need water.” I blink myself back to reality and pull myself off him. “Course, wait here,” I hurry back into the kitchen. Although as I fill a glass my mind can’t help but wonder. I decide to ask the newly found voice in my head. “Is it normal to have a fast heartrate when you’re drunk?” As if on cue, my wolf makes herself known with a response. ‘It’s possible.’ I’m not totally satisfied. “But how come I feel as if nervousness can also cause a racing heartbeat?”

Darren awoke with a start, his heart racing as his mind immediately gravitated towards Lucy. Without wasting a single moment, he hastily threw off the covers and bounded out of bed, the urgency in his movements betraying his anxiety. Amber’s pov My heart starts racing once again. When something is done at a specific time and in a certain pattern, the human body becomes accustomed to it. Each time I dress up before leaving the house in the morning quickens my heartbeat. When will this end? The truth is, my husband is unhappy. From the bedroom where I'm getting ready, I can hear the running water in the kitchen sink and the clatter of dishes as my husband angrily washes them.

The moment the realization hit me, it didn’t sit quietly in my chest the way I thought it would. It didn’t come slow, It crashed my mind . I stood up so fast from the bed that it almost made me dizzy, my head spinning as I stared at nothing in particular. My heart was beating too loudly, too fast, like it was trying to break out of my chest. “No… no, no, no…” I muttered under my breath, dragging my hands through my hair.

The monitor flashed red, his heartbeat spiking wildly, numbers racing upward. “What's going on?” “Nurse!” I screamed. “Somebody help!” Two nurses and a doctor burst inside seconds later, rushing to the machines. “What’s happening?!” I demanded. The nurse scanned the reading with wide eyes. “His heart rate has spiked,” she answered urgently. “Way too fast. Something triggered his nervous system.” “What does that mean?!” “It means,” the doctor said, voice low, “he might be waking up or he might be dying.”
