As the sun began to set, casting a warm golden hue over campus, Charlie, Maya, Ethan, and Liam gathered in their secret hiding place, the old abandoned hedge garden behind the science building. The air was thick with anticipation; they had been waiting for this moment for weeks. The four friends had been diligently gathering information about the plot against the werewolf king, and now they were ready to share their findings with Jessica.

“You’re drooling, Little River.” He teases lightly, and I flush. “Sorry” I murmur, but before he can say anything, something moves beside him and moves towards me as if coming in for a hug. I scream and jump back, only to take a close look… What in the Dr. Facilier shit, is this? Is that his shadow casually coming my way? “I-uh-I…” “Back.” He says, and the shadow seems to deflate sadly and then retreat into his actual shadow.

It was the dead of night, and her parents were hurriedly packing their belongings into a car, shadows of fear etched across their faces. “We have to leave now!” her father insisted, glancing over his shoulder as if he could sense danger lurking in the shadows. “They’re onto us!” Aqua felt a chill run down her spine as the atmosphere thickened with tension. Suddenly, a series of loud thuds echoed through the darkness, drawing her parents’ attention. They exchanged worried glances before creeping toward the source of the noise.

"We need to get back to the Packhouse quickly. At 1:00 PM, Alpha Alis will be taking roll call. If we're not there, we're going to be in serious trouble." I got up from the bed briskly. I touched the damp clothes that had been hung over the chair since early morning; they were still wet, but it didn't matter, as I would be swimming back later anyway. I removed the sweater I had been wearing and changed into my own clothes. Hilda turned away instinctively, avoiding seeing me shirtless. "I don't want to go back," she suddenly said.

Wolves were running all over, and then she got a mindlink. "The Shadow Howlers are here, and it looks like they came to fight," Her dad said in the mindlink to the pack. Why would The Shadow Howlers come to their pack? They were the pack that basically policed other packs, but The Last Moon Pack hadn't done anything wrong. In fact, they were so vanilla that Bianca hoped her mate would take her away. She picked Trisha up and ran toward the pack house. They got to the front porch just as the warriors arrived.

She pinched herself, trying to wake herself up but nothing happened. “Well how am I supposed to leave this place, if I cannot wake myself up,” she said turning around hoping the little girl was playing a trick on her, but she was gone. Abey looked around for some kind of sign that would give her a way out, but everything seemed invisible to her touch, but she felt like she was physically in front of the farmhouse. I wake up the next morning to bright light blaring into my face. Holding my hands up to shield my eyes from the light, I realise that I’m back in my bedroom. Still in my clothes from last night and a soft fluffy blanket draped over the top of me. Lilith must have managed to get me upstairs last night.

“I’m not going to hurt Shadow. And the warning didn’t come from me. It came from nature and dead witches.” Shadow rubbed her arms. “I was with my parents. I was eight in that dream. Mom put a flower on my braid. I was about to go to Dad when I saw a broken-wing bird. Somehow, it healed, and it flew back. I don’t know what the hell it was all about, but Dad told me I shouldn’t give up on something until I get it. Then you showed up, and I became me again.” She then looked at me. “Then I saw your wolf at the cliff. I was calling your name when I woke up.” “Call me if you need anything,” Zarah said.

Zehra continued, “Your partial shift reacted with the Knot’s energy. And now… the Shadow Guardian has been released to hunt you down.” “So that creature last night—” “Was just the beginning,” she cut in. Suddenly, the earth outside trembled faintly. Black mist crept from the trees, slithering toward the cave like cold fingers. Halvar swore under his breath. “Too soon. We’re not far enough from the activation zone…” A towering figure emerged from the fog. Not like the creature before—this one was solid. Nearly human in shape, armored in living shadow, with dim violet light glowing beneath its skin. It had two arms—and four scythe-like claws fused into them.

All my senses had become sharper. One moment I was standing in the room, my fists clenched. The next my body convulsed, muscles snapping and stretching. Shadow took control and growled with rage as the momories came crashing down on him. When I opened my eyes the world looked different. “We’re going to her,” Shadow growled “You can’t just—” I started. “Watch me.” Shadow was in control now and I was just along for the ride. The sun was still low on the horizon when Shadow’s powerful strides brought us to the edge of the clearing.
