He didn't turn around either, instead, he just kept moving forward, his steps
confident and sure, as though he could see in the dark.
"Aren't you able to see in the dark?"
More to break the silence than anything else, I asked in a voice that was hardly more than a whisper.
"Yes."
In the darkness, all I could hear was his voice.
I shakily exhaled, caught between the heat of knowing
that he was holding me and the relief that I wasn't doing this alone.
Only the echo of our footsteps on the stone floor could be heard as we continued walking.
My eyes fought the darkness until they gradually grew accustomed to it.
