Mr. and Mrs. Miller turn to me and I steel myself for what will not be a pleasant conversation. “So, Carter,” Mr. Miller starts. “Do you know what Ryan has been through?” “She told me what Tommy did to her,” I reply. At the mention of his name, both Mr. and Mrs. Miller visibly flinch. “Has she told you anything about what happened after or about the trials?” Mrs. Miller asks.

Apparently he was afraid you would find out about his dirty little secrets. Walter paused to collect himself and Jill looked at him wide-eyed. "And the others?" she asked nervously. “Ewan Miller was not involved in the photos nor did he know about them. He earned his pocket money by busily selling stimulants to the girls.” Walter grinned. More lies, but delivered with such conviction that I worried the jury might believe him. “Mr. Miller, you transferred $50,000 to Mr. and Mrs. Williams in October. Can you explain that?” “Of course. After Zara left, I thought about her parents—how much they’d invested in her over the years, how she’d just abandoned them without a backward glance. I wanted to do something to help ease their burden. So I gave them a gift. No strings attached. Just my way of saying thank you for welcoming me into their family for five years.”

I asked, turning my head to look him dead in the eye. "Well, a little! Isn't Mr. Miller one of the most powerful men in this whole city?" I straightened my spine, sitting bolt upright. "Mr. Miller killed his own wife. He partnered with Gabriel's twisted mother and had Gabriel kidnapped and tortured... Should I keep listing out his sins for you, or do you get the picture?"

Miller's body quivered, his voice hoarse as he pleaded, "Mr. Lakeworth, I swear I didn't know anything about what happened back then. "I was arrogant and disrespectful to you before. And now, my grandson has paid for it with his life. Please, have mercy on my family. "I promise I'll leave your mother's villa immediately, and I vow to never cross your path again." "Mercy for the Jackel family?" Sean's chuckle held no warmth. "Miller, I've given you ample chances before, haven't I? But what did you choose?" "Mr. Lakeworth, we were blind and ignorant! Please, have mercy on us," Miller begged, drenched in cold sweat as he slapped himself in the face.
