I didn’t have the energy to pretend to be okay.
“I knew I would find you here, there is no place else you would rather be. You always come here alone?” J.J’s voice broke through the quiet.
I glanced over my shoulder. He stood there in a dark hoodie and jeans, hands shoved in his pockets, his hair messy like he’d run his fingers through it a thousand times. His eyes were locked on me, soft and searching.
“I needed fresh air,” I said quietly, turning my gaze back to the stream.
“There’s fresh air all over camp, you know,” he said with a smirk as he stepped closer.
